Easiest and least expensive solution is to buy from an United States or Canadian breeder with bloodlines that you like.  No breeder in Europe will sell any American his top dog or puppy if they can help it.  Even those who buy adult trained dogs with titles and championships never do any better with the dog on this side of the pond and often do worse than the dog did in their home country.  Why??  The owner or breeder knows the dogs and puppies way better than you do or you ever will without breeding your own dogs.  What the GSD community in all areas (K9, protection, show, competition, AKC) needs to do is breed their own dogs and not depend on foreign breeders.  The AKC type GSD is the only part of the GSD community that breeds their own dogs and does not import them.  I don't care for the AKC GSD but they have the right to breed to their standard if that is what they want and those forever complaining about them need to contribute their time and effort to breeding something better or just keep running your mouths and buying foreign born or bred dog.

Bubba,
There are plenty of competitors in the US that have done BETTER with dogs purchased form Europe than the former European owners.

You seem to run your mouth a lot, but your breedings are mediocre at best, nothing to brag about.  What have you done lately with your dogs, or ever?

has bubba web-site? i would like to see what he is into. he never really answers questions, just makes vitriolic attacks and disapears.

if he breeds dogs as good as he hates he would be a kennel to watch for sure...any info on his lines, accomplishments etc, i got an open mind.

You need to find a breeder and Facebook with them. Get to know them. Get to know what drives they are breeding. Often brokers buy dogs and lie to the breeders. Breeders want to be sure the dogs are going into good homes. Not all brokers are bad but if a person is burnt once then there done with it. The US does not have a great reputation for dogs. We have kill shelters wide open everyday putting down dogs we really didn't want. I know of very honest people in the CZ. Look into the dogs you like, get to know the owner and then you can get a great import dog. If it's handled like a amazon order than what do you really expect? I'm friends with my dogs breeder, I like her. We exchange photos of Christmas, food etc. buy a dog from someone you know, not a broker but a person. I have one import and one USA born dog. The US dog, Akeemi, is going into human remains water recovery for the sheriff department, she is a top sport dog, A +++ able to do anything. Ando is a wonderful import, great for PP or police work. We have great dogs in the US and ther are wonderful imports. I wanted another PP dog and Ando will be great at it.

Got to agree with Dog1 and Kinolog - there's no such thing as a
free lunch.

Kinolog, love this
Make sure that you are being realistic about the type of dog you want, and educate yourself. You may think you want a certain thing. This is why people often give up dogs that end up being too much for them to handle. You should not consider an animal that will challenge you way beyond your abilities.

Buying Site Unseen is ALWAYS a Question Mark when it comes to what you're getting...Know the breeder and/or broker which you're planning on getting/buying a puppy/dog from...Take your time in getting to know the breeder/broker...before you buy...Make sure you're on the same page when it comes to what you're wanting and asking for...Not everyone speaks the same language...and I don't mean...German...English...Spanish...etc...I mean "Dog Language"...
It's always better to have someone on your side when trying to buy a dog from another country...There are just too many things to know before you buy your first dog "Site Unseen"...

...and...Be Very Careful What You Wish For...So many people think they want the High Drive dog...and when they get one then they have no idea of how to handle one...or what to do with one...

this is just me, but............. i only buy imports or pups out of imports.  i have imported from belgium & germany & have found those breeders to be honest & easy to deal with.  IMHO, the best way to buy dogs is to first figure out exactly what sort of dog you want.  research bloodlines to find out what lines produce that sort of dog & then research breeders who have consistent success with those lines-----over a long period of time.  what NOT to do is to get online & go searching for whatever is available.  know what you want & be willing to wait till it hits the whelping box & willing to pay what its worth.  in some cases, i've been in contact with the breeder months before the breeding was ever done.  after all, if you're going to have a dog for 12 years, waiting a few months for the right one is really no big deal.

PJP,

Really good advice. I wonder how many can do this for themselves?

I just finished some research on the lines I like. I found a female from a VA producing motherline that has the dogs I like in the pedigree. I contacted the owner of the female to inquire about a future pup. Looks like I'm in line to get one. She's not even bred yet and we have no idea who the father will be. I trust the breeders judgment.
