As I do alotofresearching and checking out what others haveand sell, I just came upon an ad from Kerstone Shepherds, and no, I do not know this. Woman and have never seen anny of her dogs, but I did see that she has a litter with Solid Blacks now,, out of Showlines.
As I could not get into the pedigree, I do not know if they are American or Germann Showlines.
The info onn the female says she carries Dominant black gene, hips and elbows are done and DM clear .
I in no way am reccomending this breeder or her dogs, I am just setting out some info.
Why it must be showline, I do nnot know, but I will ad this to the OP, if the color black is the "must have", I would say there are some. Fantastic black working line dogs, that are out there, and if you are. More concerned with. Quality overr price, which is what annyonne looking to buy a Shepherd should be, you would stay away from ANYONE, selling AKC reg. Germann Shepherds. For $250.

There are a number of blacks winning in the American GSD show scene right now.  Blacks were seen and used to win in the German show ring until the 1980s when the fad for saddle black and red dogs took over.  If you look for a solid black who is out of a mixture of working and show lines, American show lines, or German x American lines combined, chances are you'll be able to find a black dog of the quality you want.

And even then, in the American lines, it's the result of some line-blending at some point.

100% American lines produce solid blacks with no line blending necessary
