I take my dogs out to the woods to  brush out their dead undercoat.  In a few days, the wildlife and birds will have gathered up most of the hair to use in their nests.  Nature's method of recycling!

It has been in my past experience that if a dog of any breed is brushed on a daily bases or at least every other day,  there will not be this much fur loss with only one brushing session. I know not everyone is capable of that brushing that often but just sharing the info for those  capable of it and may not realize it. Wink Smile

When she isn't shedding I can brush and brush and brush as much as I want, but I get maybe 3 hairs off of her. When she blows her coat, that is an explosion you can see from space...

Disagree with Hutchins. Different coat types shed in different patterns. If someone only has experience with one type, they may not understand. For example, Caleb never blew his coat. He shed minimally to moderately all year, even amounts, no big deal. Capri, with her softer fur and plusher coat, doesn't shed much and then POOF! Literally almost overnight, you have clumps everywhere she's been and you can fill several vacuum canisters with what you can get off of her. Her pups who inherited her coat are the same way. The Caleb pups who got his coat don't blow coat like that- they shed minimally to moderately and never have that explosion that makes them look like neglected street urchins. I've had sables to have shed a lot, then sables with super dense coats who don't shed much until the massive blow out and OMG...they don't even resemble the same animal and if you brush them every day, you get enough to stuff a king size mattress, every day. It's just not that simple to say daily brushing is going to prevent blowing coat. OF COURSE brushing every day minimizes the amount PER BRUSHING...duh...but personally, I'd rather do it all at once.. .maybe on someone else's property. LOL

I like the idea of a dog standing still while you vacuum them.   Max so far is one of my worse shedders.  He sheds all the time like he is constantly blowing fur.  I put him on Nicotinamide (vitamin B3 / niacin) and the shedding has slowed down considerably.  You can still get a hand full of fur when you pet him, but it is better than the 2 handfuls you would get before.

Jenni78...Ha,ha....

well, i got 2 of each....2 that blow their coats and 2 that shed constantly....based on the latest shedding schedule of my dogs i don't particularly like either way..LOOOL.
if you are moving, experiencing budget cuts at work, have pissy employees and your dog blows its coat....than that one sh*ty week i dont like anything that sheds even if its once a year...LOL..although seems like i had 2 full blown "blow outs" this year...the shampoo that was recommended helped tremendously...
