I guess the question now is: can the GSD recover and make a comeback as a working breed? Or will the GSD continue to lose ground to other breeds?

Easy answer? Probably not. When the general public wants small economy cars, the the auto community mill make them. But it isn't that easy. Ford doesn't put two cars in a room to make their new model. It will take litter after litter after litter after litter to get past what $ has dictated is good. On the bright side, if numerous GSD breeders stay the course, they may still be around when show and pet people ruin the Malinois. By then, the Boston Terrier may be the go to breed.

Gsd's may not be as popular, but take a look at the photo in the following link of NYPD...looks like all the k9's are gsd's.
