when I was 25 I had a beautiful GSD who absolutely did not like kids, wasn't good with other dogs and would kill a cat/squirrel/rabbit in a heartbeat, and would only tolerate people when I was around and told her to deal with it. We lived in Los Angeles, hiked the hills, jogged on the streets and she went everywhere with me. I don't understand the problem with what this guy is asking for.

this being 2013, you'd think people would be more tolerant and RESPECTFUL towards views different from their own, guess we're not quiet there yet.

Let me tell you something....if I were living alone, I sure as all get out would want a dog like that.  My last male was exactly that, and although he was not raised with children, was fine with my child.  He was not fully trained, but I had no doubt that he would bite if needed.

As it is, I have a young female who is fine with my family and is ok when I take her places., However, if a stranger comes on the property, she lets them know in no uncertain terms that she is 'for real'.

After your place as been broken into a time or two, you come to appreciate a 'hard' dog.

For anyone's info. yes I m from this podunk town and I left here at 15 and just recently--10 yrs ago moved back. So for anyone who knows everything, they don't obviously remember me talking about Dallas this and that so yes I have lived in big towns most of my life. Wanta know why I don't like you Brittany? Since I've been on this board yo've never added one thing of value. And now you think any dog that doesn't ac t according to what you think shouldn't be owned. OK people want to really know what's wrong with our breed? Read the first post. They're not supposed to be working dogs anymore, only foo foo couch potatoes that lets everyone crawl on them. Well I don't go for that. When I lived in Dallas I had a PPD Mali who hated people and kids in any order. Didn't bother me--she went to work with me every day--went right in her crate and never bothered anyone. And I got her cause she was too much dog for the person that had her. Please people who breed the hard working dogs, don't stop. IMO our breed needs more breeders like that and far less foo foo ones who are ruining the breed. And Brittany when we gwet into one of these deals where you talk like you have no sense, I'm not the only one. Why don't you jump on them awhile?
Oh and Mac when I put the pupper to sleep not long ago the solution was white.........................

This is exactly how Fidu (http://es.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=748508-fido-von-sprin) is. In spite it causes me same problems he is a very good watch dog and protector.

Vonissk, I happen to not like you either, so hows that? were equal now :)

“Since I've been on this board yo've never added one thing of value.”

I don't know if I should call you a liar; a gossiper who spreads false rumors; or just lazy. To say that I never added one thing of value is clearly false. Perhaps you should click on my name, and see some of the stuffs that I've recently contributed to this forum before you even say such false statements like that.

“And now you think any dog that doesn't ac t according to what you think shouldn't be owned.”

Since when did I implied that? I simply said that potential dangerous animals who aren't social, doesn't like children and other people are better off being PTS because the quality of live for them is minimal. Being locked up in a cage all day and all night is an act of animal cruelty at a psychological level, and yes my dear friend dogs do have feelings.

A dog that loves his/her family who are also great working dogs aren't foo foo dogs IMO :) Not sure why you even brought that word up since I only associate “foo foo dog” with small breed dogs like Yorkies. Why are you so against working dogs who loves his family? Do you really think that hard working dogs should hate those that surrounds him? To be locked up in a cage 24/7 because of bad temperament? An animal who isn't temperamental sound in the head shouldn't even be working... let a loan continue to be trained in protection work.

My dog has never seen a child close up, he is not good with other dogs and I would not trust him near a moving or strange cat.

His socialization involved experiencing as many things in life as possible, but excluded strangers touching him except at a veterinarian or petco.

He is very civil and has a great temperament. He is my go everywhere dog.  I am an avid walker and hiker both in the city and in the parks.  We walk for miles every week, some of them off leash.

I don't kid myself thinking he is a nice doggy with others but he is more than a nice doggy with the family, some might even say he loves us.  But I realize this dog is serious and not a toy.

With all that said, he is a treasured member of the family kept in the house that is happy and has a full life, free of cages, and frequently free of leashes.

Why do you care what he wants in a dog? Not all dogs have to cuddle with you in bed and have to be friendly as a Pomeranian. A dog that is friendly with everyone and wants to be friends with everyone, might not be a good ppd. Mind your own business is the only advice I could give you.

Only two of twelve of mine would be kid friendly for same reason Paul wants that kind of gsd...  He owns a business!!!!!!! He wants a working dog!!!!  He can re imprint a non social. Or non kid friendly...  I worked in Depts w K9's, trained w them... They are mot to be treated as a PET.

I would word an add the same so The couch potatoe dog ownerwould not reply😁😁😁
