This is a dog I purchased xrayed and sent to the SV came back Mittlere (Moderate) .

I would have said mild on yours B Andersen. Then again, the more I look I can see the moderate rating.

@B .Anderson when you say moderate, what did they register on your pedigree? A-Fast Normal or a-noch zugellasen?

She said the rating was "Mittlere (Moderate)" -- that is, one of the not-passing ratings, roughly equivalent to OFA's moderate HD grading.
Fast normal and NZ are considered passing, non-dysplastic ratings.

thank you BlackThornGSD. I've been following these x-ray topics with great interest and have noticed people use different terminology. Reason I asked is because I've heard NZ referred to as mild HD.

NZ does compare to mild HD per the OFA. An NZ rated dog would probably not receive an OFA clearance.

Personally I would never use an NZ dog for breeding unless I could see the x-ray first and know the status of the parents and siblings. I assume the SV has the statistics to back up their opinion that NZ's are still OK for breeding.
Most of the AKC people I know who breed large breeds prone to HD have reduced the incidence in their dogs by only breeding normals x normals and by paying attention to siblings, parents, and third degree relatives. I see more HD and more severe cases in my friends' German dogs (WL's and SL's) and many times those dogs do have multiple NZ's in a 4 generation pedigree.

I do not think NZ = dysplastic. I've heard of too many dogs who tested clear as older dogs once they were imported, including at least one NZ dog that went OFA Excellent. I've also heard of NZ dogs who were dysplastic, too.
I would want to see a new set of xrays before buying a dog who was NZ--so I am not fully comfortable with it as a rating for breeding, either. I really think that extra 12 months required by OFA goes a long way to showing whether a dog's hips are "clean."
