I hate the phrase,," a loving forever home".....It only means one thing for retired breeding dogs ..Reading between the lines in not that difficult..Sad Smile
People suck!..

Erm ... as someone who has provided "loving forever homes"
for Shepherds who, while not actual 'retired breeding stock'
were pretty much in the same position, being adults rejected
from their home kennel's breeding programme for health
reasons, I feel that is somewhat of an over-generalisation.

1st was a successful show dog, homed to me at three & a half,
[due to poor hips], lived to 14;
2nd is well bred, has good hips, haemo clear, but overshot &
has umbilical hernia.  Arrived at 17 months; now 10.
Anyone want to doubt that i loved 'em,or don't keep 'em 'forever' ?

ON Topic, maybe Sitasmom was a bit fast off the mark and should
have left it to the Admins;  or: maybe she remembered the earlier
circumstances quoted and thought that might be happening
again here;  and got in 'on the ground floor' ?  I myself did not
act but had my concerns;  and if a few more from the same
source had appeared, I might have been the one asking the
Mods to check it out.  I am pro there being a Rescue forum;
quite happy for it to be about other breeds;  but I am also a
pragmatist, and could see some members getting turned away
from anything that says its about pedigree dogs, and GSDs in
particular, but actually looks like (yet another) all-breeds rescue
forum.  Appreciate the new poster responsible didn't mean any
harm by what she did.

Oh and for those who don't realise it, unlike SM  I'm not a breeder
myself, so I don't have an iron in that fire.

I want to make one thing clear. It is an all breeds rescue forum and even mixed breeds. It doesn't say GSD rescue forum, it simply says rescue forum.

Sorry to go OT,,i won't be but a minute,,

Since I opened my mouth (which I probably will regret), let me clarify what I posted above...,,Of course there are exception, but few and far between IMO..

When a breeder says, "I am looking for a forever home for my retired female"...

reading between the lines,,

----I have a older female that has given me the best years of her life and has provided me with a great deal of $ and I now have no use for her; If you say the things I want to hear she is yours.----

Yes Admin, but if you are looking to join this site because you want
to adopt a rescue dog, its a very different thing from coming to join
the site because you heard its a good place to learn about & discuss
GSDs.  The latter is why I came here in the first place; and its why an
awful lot of people still do.*  And for many of them it will be natural to
call up the 'Latest Posts' lists first.  Most newbies with puppy queries
have quite enough to worry about, at time of joining, without considering
rescue opportunities, not in the front of their minds at present.

* If I'd been looking for a dog to adopt, or otherwise help with, I doubt
this forum is where I would have started looking - I can do nothing for
the majority of dogs as they are in America;   we have plenty of  [both
all-breed and breed specific] rescue sites that are UK based;  and I can
go to real-time shelters easily enough ...  I don't think I am non-represent-
ative of others.

I doubt that a recsue section is going to cause this site to fall apart. Are you aware this site has other breeds sections? So, it makes sense to allow other breed rescues. After all the training, all breed, conformation and working forums are for all breeds not just GSD.

The whole point of this rescue forum is to have a place to network. This forum is not to try and replace other rescue forums but more to help network and connect with others and I do think most members really don't care that it is here so I don't really agree that you are representative of most, all or even some members.

This is THE PEDIGREE DATABASE, It IS the best source for pedigree research ,as of this date for mostly German Shepherds.
As people with other breeds find this site, they add their breeds and pedigrees to THE PEDIGREE DATABASE.
Just because most of the posters here have German Shepherds, don't mean it is an exclusive Shepherd database.
It is not that hard to navigate the site. If you don't want to look at the rescue section, don't look. It has become painfully obvious that to SOME posters dogs are nothing more then money in their pockets.
Of course we don't expect them to care about the rescues, they feel good enough about putting their own dogs out.
I actually feel sorry for those that have no idea what a true, loyal dog is all about.
Half the time when new people come here looking for help they get run off and made to feel like idiots anyway.
I for one enjoy reading and learning about other breeds. Maybe Oli would like other breed fanciers to make better use of the database .
If he intended the site to be only for German Shepherd lovers, he probably would not individual breeds listed.
I really think those crying about too much rescue spots, or too many breeds for rescue are pathetic.
Sorry if you take offence at that but every freakin dog deseves help if it is needed and available.
And, BTW- all my dogs are my dogs forever. Never been married , but for me and my dogs:
It's til death do us part. My dogs are members of the family.
(Even those I can't make a dime off of).

When I want to get onto the board,  I click a Google entry
marked  "Pedigree database."

Which is the website reference I gleaned, way back when.

Once on it, I looked for German Shepherd.  In doing so I
noticed there were All Breeds, Conformation, and various
other Forums.  So gradually I explored all of them. Today
I would notice there are 'Newbies' and 'Rescue' forums too.
How, otherwise, is that different for someone new visiting for
the first time [since Oli's site re-vamp] ?

Lots of sites have 'latest comments' style precis lists.  So
if I was more used to other sites I would quite likely use
that service, since it is now available.  I might not then
appreciate how much the database contains if I looked
in and saw a list that had so many rescue postings on
the page as happened in this instance.  Don't forget there
were a lot of other rescue threds at the same timespan
as T's.  If that went on for days before the admins got to it,
it could lose you a lot of followers, going by how many
join up at some points.  Just lookin' at it from another
angle.

SitasMom: "jonrob - if you read the rest of the thread................my infrence was that these dogs were being treated like dirty little rats and not like dogs."

I remember real well how you tried to worm your way out of your callous and cruel remarks when others jumped on you on for making them. Not much of anyone fell for it. This wasn't the first time you showed such a lack of compassion and I'm sure it won't be the last. Thanks for the reminders, Slamdunc.

If you clicked a link that said Pedigree Database, wouldn't you be looking for pedigree information? So, maybe new members get put off by talk  about most everything but pedigrees.

I see you have a lot to say about this so what is your suggestions to fix it? Do you want Oli to get rid of the rescue section? Do you want us to stop people from posting rescues unless they are only GSDs and how do we know 100% that a rescue is 100% GSD? Please share with the members what you would do to fix this in your eyes. Do you want me to take away the latest post list as that would fix it? I am not sure what your point is here.
