"...I think the so called Hoopla is really about the dog exhibiting perfect conformation (almost) along with working abilities; and a dog that can exhibit all of that in a single picture. .."

tell me this was sarcasm....please tell me this was sarcasm - a dog can "exhibit" this from a "single picture"  that is a joke right????

".... could be bred to either working or show line females or a combination of bothThat is versitility,  That shows true working dogs...."

this is not VERSITILITY it is FERTILITY, it does not show "true working dogs" it shows a dog that is nothing more than horny. how did...??

"A dog that can do it all"

do what exactly???? breed???

 Don't you just love that.

NO,

here is my opinion, at no cost, from a first time GSD owner. sure neat looking dog, way too heavy for my personal taste, resembles a musk ox and i would venture to guess would have the same stamina and agility capabilities as a musk ox. pigment is nice if you are into dark pigment, some are some aren't. i doubt this dog would put in a solid days work day after day. that does not mean it can't do schuts tho. no dog that works all day long looks like that type NONE.

not dogs fault but has that hideous crouch stance the handlers put him in cos they think it looks cool, poor dog looks like so many in that stance like they are trying to mate with a tennis ball, in fact dogs in that stance look like they are not only trying to mate with a tennis ball they are cowering as well like they are scared of getting caught doing it.

happy to post pics of gsd's i think look good but all this is personal taste.

not trying to bad mouth the dog but trying to understand where some of yr heads are at. people are so quick to jump and the impact on the breed gets spread quick.

While I thought vk4gsd was correct to ask the question, and I
have a sneaking suspicion he is right about the 'hoopla'   I wish to
make it clear I would NOT agree with the bulk of what they
put in that last post !!!
I think those sentiments are just as extreme in the other
direction ...

by vk4gsd on 04 January 2013 - 03:01

ok honestly was not trying to be bad-mouthing or anything - i was being a bit silly but honest (thats just me)  in my opinion, you did read the bit about i am on my first gsd so my opinions should not have enough weight to offend anyone surely?  the good thing about being a newb is that we come with no biases or allegiences to anyone, what makes me different i will make my own biases and allegiences based on what makes sense to me and if that means kicking a few sacred cows in the head so what.

i sees it the way i sees it and appreciatte when i am seeing it wrong that someone comes with something better than "hoopla" to straighten me out. not like have ever been mr popular, but honest and for real i'm all about that.

hundmutter you would not agree with "the bulk' of my post, thats cool man but which little bit did you agree with...curious?

vk - that you can't tell it all in one still photograph. Roll eyes

by vk4gsd on 04 January 2013 - 03:01

haha, gotcha. that was the statement that set me off, the rest just kind of flowed.

all is fun.

Do people know how often people fall in love or even make breeding decisions on pictures or aesthetic aspects of a dog without having any real knowledge of whether what they see or like is a dominant trait. How many people breed to dogs that what they see is an exception and will not be produced by the picture they are looking at. I have known top breeders in their craft who make breeding decisions on these whims.....maybe that's why I can be so cynical sometimes with the term reputable breeder or breeding....just sayin

I do indeed like him from the photo and his pedigree, while keeping in mind he is a young dog just beginning his career honestly. I like his structure very much from the photo alone. No dog is perfect, and taste is very subjective. To me, he is absolutely one to keep an eye on for the future. I like his pedigree, as it is open, he appears to me that PHYSICALLY, he would enhance either working or showlines. He does appear fairly "heavy boned" and very masculine, which to me is a plus for breeding. A stud offers 50 percent genetically, and this to me would hopefully enhance most any delicate bitch that might breed to him. I want a male that produces MASCULINE males, I strongly dislike the appearance of bitchy males. I see several females in his pedigree that are SCHIII which is a big plus to me. There is much unknown of course as to the temperament, nerve, strengths and weaknesses of him, but come on people, he is 2 1/2yrs old! He will surely be campaigned well, watched and critiqued, bred, and we will see what he is all about. On the surface, for a young male- I see a particularly stunning dog with a bright future, and one I personally will be watching.
P.S.- if the current owner tires of him, I have a very suitable spot right here!
Happy New Year!

In this case we do not only have a picture, but A LOT OF videos, pictures, results.
This is one of the most openly shown and marketed young males i´ve seen.
The owner can´t do much more to show you his dog, if you don´t want or can not come around to meet him in person...

Gustav, you are right, this doesn´t say anything about the further progeny - like always, time will show.
But if nobody uses him as stud, we´ll NEVER know.
