I agree that it's "important to get it right" when you select a male, and that emphasizes the importance of recognizing the difference between a well bred stud and a well marketed one.  When a particular dog is raved about or is quite notable in particular venues, placed high in some particular event, is related to so and so, or for whatever particular reason, don't allow that to inhibit your perception and evaluation of THE actual dog.  For example, there's a "brother" of some other special dog that was imported to the US, who because of his lack of secondary sex characteristics would not meet my requirements for a breeding specimen.   "He'd make a nice bitch in my kennel," I stated, ha ha.

Daryl, I wasn't disagreeing with you in any sense, just making a point. And there are many points to be made and as many opinions to go with them.

Hundmutter, I have my own well considered reasons for breeding my female the way I have.  It is not imperative to follow the recommendations of a koermeister, but to be guided by them.  There are other factors to be considered and I appreciate Herr Grewe's recommendations, but I know my female better than anyone and based on the considerations of other factors which I will not get into here, have made the decisions that I have.  Perhaps in the future, I will follow his advice for breeding.  My girl has just turned five and has yet a future ahead of her.

Of all the pups in the first litter which are only 18 months now, Boomer is the one I still have and he does not even have a BH yet (soon).  The rest are owned by others and I have no right to post anything about them.  Several, in fact are with law enforcement and SAR and are unlikely ever to have information posted about them here.

With respect to all,

Connie Doan

I too have found this extremely informative, and the different perspectives have been very interesting. Great thread.
