Hey Momosgarage, if you later remember the name of the study, do share.
As far as Rotts in SchH, some time back I was helping a relative find one and we looked at this kennel as an option, who has (or used to have) several SchH dogs in breeding stock:

The study was done by Leonid Kruglyak of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center with Heidi Parker and Elaine Ostrander collecting the DNA. I found a scan of the chart with the DNA groupings. I forgot that wolf was another DNA category along with hunting, herding and mastiff. German Shepherds are highlighted near the bottom in the Mastiff category and Belgian Sheepdogs are in the herding group near the top. They gave Tervurens thier own category, but I was mistaken and Malinois did not get thier own category. Also the way I see the chart, it looks like Labradors and tibetan terriers have the closest mix of everything including wolf, hunting, herding and mastiff:
