I   ditto   ARRA and PRAGER

I will stand by  my firm belief having seen many dogs burn out with too high protein..THE percentage written on that dog food bag is a falsito...period...
SO much crap is put in the grain free dog food to make the PROTEIN level that high...use brains..

MEAT, the real deal with bones, eggs, etc....RAW not cooked is the answer...If you dog runs daily , gets high hours of work and training program that you and dog are in daily and you see your dog  burning it up...then good high protein over 35 percent is ok...but just do not think feeding high protein dog food will not be dangerous later after a long time feeding.

NOT all vets know what nutritional facts for GERMAN SHEPHERDS>>HILLS food that vets buy are so off the wall with their MARKETING ideas.. WE all know vets get kick backs for the selling of HILLS and Hills is like bagging up grass, dirt and a few rocks from the field accross the fence ...

SOME posters have never fed but two or three dogs in their lives of owning gsd, I have fed mega , like Prager and others on here that have had many gsd with many kinds of appetites ..
MY bloodlines eat like there is no tomorrow..I have no knowledge of gsd with no appetite..I do know even my dogs as active as they use to be...could not stand a high protein bagged dog food over a two or three year period..

JMO

I have nothing to argue about with anyone else..I have seen many owners of Schutzhund trialing dogs  and been in the dog world a long long time and spent hours on the phone with meega trainers of this breed who have seen HIGH PROTEIN of high percentages  cause a liver , and kidney problem after a year or so of feeding if the dogs are not in hunting season or have an every day agenda of high exercise.
TODAY the health Researches of three Heart Doctors. announced the harm of egg YOLKS again, and the Dr. on FOX , addressed it..HE said    IF you do not exercise, are a couch potatoe kind of a person you should LIMIT your egg YOLKS...but if you are active, have no chlestorol problems, have no high blood pressure , then do not get all upset over the YOLK research. THIS research has been done and toss to and fro for years..THE  yolk, can promote the blood to get thicker, and cause a problem..if you are prone to heart problems...SO they suggest that the person eating YOLKS or egg omlets daily   cut down on their intake...so the HIGH percentage of PROTEIN is the same idea.... IF you have a dog who is high prey , high exercised..then  you may be at no risk.

I recommend raw but before I switched to raw, I fed California Naturals, Venison, grain free.  It cleared up my dog's allergies and when compared to other single source protein dry kibble, it is much lower in protein.

If you cannot go raw then go Origen.
