Chaz Reinhold

Honestly, most high level handlers would rather just grab a gun than risk their dog getting an injury. Do some of you not realize that some people are not concerned with real life protection? Some people just want to compete in a sport. Not saying that is me. I couldnt care less. Titles are for the handler. I just like the training, good training and the fun I have with fellow trainers. You can come over any time. I bet you don't even get in the door/window. No training needed. Genetics. Came out the box like that. Pun intended.

I think my dog would get into the fray, but not sure he'd end up biting the right one... if there were "family" involved! And that is straight out of the box... and I'm thinking in the context of a sudden event, not somethng the dog would be conditioned to, as everyday bickering and violence between mates.

And in some of the stories about the dogs not stopping a death when their owners were attacked, I do believe they protected the bodies with their own. Something to think about?

Absolutely we are aware of that, which is why some of us call it a sport and wonder if it really is a breed worthy test. wink

THe head of the post office in Texas City years ago said more of his Postal workers had been bitten and chased  by

"COCKER SPANIELS and Chichuahua's  then big dogs like german shepherds."

At a court hearing long time ago on a loose gsd that was not owned by anyone..a stray.

Didn't mean you, Mrs. Sable. I know you know that I know you know.

Chaz, how could that be, "bet you don't get in the door/window, no training...genetics." I just read on this thread that the gsd breed has been basically ruined and nobody cares. I know that not all is lost...there are still some pockets of real GSDs in the world. Btw, that bundiprof dog was always loose, highway couple hundred yards away, owners left him loose for "protection". They weren't handlers, just had a lot of money to buy an expensive "protection dog". Lol

I was talking to a policeman who was testing/selecting the dogs for the police to buy and he was taken of the job because he was selecting too strong dogs, the new cops couldnot handle them , he told me that K9 handelers used to be dogtrainers that became policeman , nowadays rookiecops think , he maybe its nice to be K9 handler and take a 6 month course, and without ever having trained a dog they are now K9 handlers, but cannot handle a real dog
so on all levels the  demand is for easy, balldrive social happy dogs , and that is the problem, even when im training at a KNPV club nowadays they want full and calm grips and high balldrive because of trainability and easy selling
