What is the actual 'question' around the JRD test Jemima?

One particular issue with the JRD Test. now the RD Test in the UK is the apparent saturation of RD in Flat Coated Retrievers. It appears that in this breed RD "CLEARS" are as rare as hens teeth! 

Oh, so its really a personal interest that she has ?  She didn't mention that.
Bet Jemima considers herself lucky every day that FlatCoats are not among the " 15 ".

My personal concern is avoiding such "RD saturation" amongst GSD - Our breed in the UK has currently relatively few cases, however ????

Its not one of the things you hear constantly mentioned on here - or anywhere else that i'm aware of so far - as being
a known problem in the States.  Given the extent to which other diseases are talked about across the Pond,  that can
only be a good indication that it doesn't happen there too much either.  But I agree with you its always useful to have a test for anything known to occur and to USE the test to ensure eg JRD doesn't get bred on.
 
When I said it had proved a bit of a red herring I was referring to the fact that so few cases had been referred to in GSD that it might be some sort of 'blip', and we MAYBE get away with this one not really being a problem.
However we both know there are enough stupid people out there on all sides of the World to breed with dogs who DO or MIGHT carry it, even with testing facilities it will get spread around if it is going to be.

The Jemimas of this world should note that those "stupid people" are  NOT,  in the main, Show  or Work people who are serious about the Breed, but BYB and farmers who exist in their hundreds and produce
a huge proportion of pet puppies.  But then, she knows that, I've said it before, loads of other people have
said it before,  Noddi just said it again ... do the anti-purebred faction LISTEN ? Nope.

Linda, so far as I am aware it is not prevalent (yet) in the GSD. I have only personally known one dog with it. Having said that, I believe that if we have tests available we should make use of them. This beautiful vibrant young male died at 4 years old. It was an unnecessary and preventable death, and deeply saddening, and one death too many IMO.

I feel very sorry for the flatcoat fraternity living constantly with the spectre of this disease in their breed.

The worry and tragedy is that several other breeds are just as saturated with RD as the FCR's

I've never heard of a Flatcoat that was affected by this illness.  I thought I read that the test was being withdrawn.

I got a Flatcoat because all of my very well bred GSD's were so ill that I couldn't face having another one.  But I put that down to my bad luch as I know many peopple who have ver healthy GSd's. 

My Flatcoat is fabulous, fit & healthy, as are all of the Flatties that I have met.  Can Jemima tell us how many Flatcoats have ctually been diagnosed as suffering from this illness since the test was manufactured?  Or is the test manufacturr just out to make a buck like everyone else?

I agree with Noddi, it's about time the backstreet  breeders & puppy farmers were targeted & if anybody wanted to do something really constructive they would target all these SBT's & Pit Bull types that are being over bred, sold on the internet, allowed to live with irresponsible owners who create amenace for society out of them before being they are dumped in the pounds where most are destroyed.  That is the real tragedy in the dog world, why not do something about that?  Why not start a campaign that would stop the popularity of 'Status' dogs.  I rememeber a time when I could visit my local highstreet to socialise a pup wthout the fear of getting on he wrong end of  some hoodies killing machine, when guide dogs could do their job without being attacked by a dog some moron could'nt be bothered to control.   Who's breediing these dogs?  I saw a programme where a teenage boy walked down he road selling his staffie pups to anyone who was interested, not cring whose hands they fell into.  Surely that is worse than a breeder who has paid out to do every health test under the sun exept one that they've never known a dog to get ill from?
