Yep, "tree-huggers" are environmentalists. Some of them have actually "hugged" or chained themselves to trees, to prevent loggers from cutting them down. It is used in reference to enviornmentalists in general, not just the ones trying to save [usually old-growth] trees. :-)

Well, Mystere and I find something we agree upon. Persons who don't care about tree hugging also drive big SUVs that get 15 miles to the gallon. They also swim in pools heated by natural gas. Oh, I almost forgot, we log trees by the thousand just to make a buck, mine coal, and drill for oil. My family does all except drill for oil. Yes, you can imgaine who I voted for.
