I pay less than that to have an entire litter checked out, vaccinated, and two fecal floats done and vets here aren't even cheap. I'd say you were royally screwed. I have NEVER heard of a vet charging to dispose of the syringe before! Find another vet. It shouldn't have been more than $100 and that's if extra dewormer was sent home. Most office visits, depending on area, are $30-70 and the shots aren't more than $10. Dewormer, as YR said, you can just buy from the feed store for way less. Pyrantel Pamoate is around $20 for a huge bottle that will last a couple years easily even if you deworm monthly. Dosage is 5mg/lb and it has 50mg/ml. Even the fenbendazole, which is more expensive, is $100 for a large bottle that would last a one dog household a few years easily. Dosage is 25mg/lb and it has 100mg/ml. Even going heavy on the deworming and doing it monthly (alternating the two), those bottles will last a couple years minimum.

It really depends where you live. I live in the city of Chicago and that sounds about right to me...
