"It's wiser to critique your own dog than to have some breed judge tell you your working dog doesn't have enough rear angulation, or steep enough croup."

I respectfully disagree also. I think it's patently unwise to have your dogs only critiqued by yourself.

Maybe your working dog does not have enough rear angulation for some show judges, maybe the croup is steep. So? Plenty of SG, even V, kkl1 dogs who are excellent workers have those faults. Acceptable faults do not make a dog unbreedworthy. Identifying those faults makes the owner/breeder aware of their dogs' weaknesses in order to choose the most suitable breeding partners.

Some judges will not have the same taste as others. Go before a judge who has similar taste to your own if you care about rating, or go just because you will value their opinion more than another judge.

No one says you have to breed to what wins, if it's not the type you're going for. I find many of the dogs I like very much are not always at the front of the ring. I could care less. Breed what complements your dog, and what your chosen type is within the standard. A dog need not be flawless to bring something special to the gene pool. The dog should, however, adhere to what defines the German Shepherd Dog.

Sorry, Von,I was using " not enough rear angulation and the croup not steep enough", as a theoretical example only. I don't show my dogs under breed judges for the reasons I gave. But I also do not go without the additional critique of very experienced " dog men", as I mentioned in my last post. What I was implying by not enough rear angulation was that generally, show judges like much more angulation than a work dog will have in comparison to a show dog.

That dog on my site is not being promoted his illness came on about 3 months ago. I have spent many hours with him, he is my friend, my companion and he means alot to me. I havent not come to grips with the fact that he is sick and cant not be used. When I am ready I will move him onto another page. He is a product of all the showline/working breedings. When you select dogs for there looks only and forget the inner core of the dog that is what we get. You ask where the calmness has gone right out the window with the nerve and confidence keep breeding dogs so they all look the same same coat same colors that is what you get. This is the reason they personally attack me they know I am right deep down. I made gernerlized statement attacked no ones program no one dogs but they all felt the need to protect themselves and attack me thats guilt and thats fine.

Through the years these showline people have pushed for changes in shutzhund so the weaker pretty dogs can pass. Many things have changed in a trial that is suposed to put out only the best, but what we are getting is lessor quality. Little pressure if any is put on the dog, no stick contact no guns involved the wall has changed all to allow these types of dogs to get through. It,s a big market im sure lots of money being made. All these people have to hang there hat on is my dog is titled and his hips have been done. As hips are concerned just because the stud or bitch has good hips that does not mean the offspring will have good hips. Do any of you follow that I no the answer no because you already made the sale you have no interest to you your job is over. I will not be posting on this again no one here has guts to seriously look at what they are doing. There is only one GSD that is the Workingline Germaqn Shepherd.

Savitch - This link applies to you.  I would say stop while your ahead, but your not even close.  I get it dude.  If you chage your "stance" you lose the very foundation that you built your business model on.  Unfortunately, your business model is kinda like some guy in a garage somewhere slapping together a car out of second hand parts then telling everyone who drives a BMW that they are idiots and ruining the auto industry......

Savitch - I think you need a hug.

I try to find the best in people as I get older.  I used to be very blunt and mean.  Now just blunt with humor and try to throw in some kindness and human decency.  My posts have tried to give some self awareness and some sound business advice.  Some of it is highly compressed so you have to really read it to understand.  It is very frustrating arguing with someone that cant even realizing they are losing the argument.  Like watching Jerry Springer.

Are there ways to re-invent? Sure.  The core of your business model is broken.  You really need to trust me when I tell you this....

Again.....virtual hug!  Tight squeeze, pat on the back, genuine smile .  Firm, trusting, manly gaze.....Shhhh, dont talk.  Its gonna be ok.  Dont look at my ass as I walk away.
