Good looking dog, but I will never understand or like the look when people pull their back leg out that far.

Wlpool, ok, thanks for the Kor information. I will go try to research it further.

Yes, I know about the hock on the stretched leg but it just didn't happen today!! I first had my 4 year old son snap the photo with me in front of my pup. Ummm...so that didn't go well!! LOL  So, I asked my spouse to take picture and he complained the whole time because he wanted to go eat and we were outside without coats (it's freezing). She ended up watching a chimpmunk climb the fence and ignored me in front of her anyways! Thus, I ended up doing a "quick, hurray and and snap some pics"!!!

I usually have it pretty perpendicular.......I think!!

Thanks,
Sara

GSD...that is how I was taught in breed handling class.

But, I will add- she stands naturally like that all the time.......so, I think it is a natural position for the dogs.

well how i got started in  SV showing , was i got my husband to walk / run ahead of me so the dog will pull to get to him and i do the handling , if you have another family member that the dog likes thats all you need to run in front of the dog and you can handle, i make a large square area in my front yard to practice. its really not that hard, i figure it out myself and i know i do ok. i am even thinking to try one of the Seiger shows in 2012. i would guess you would get atleast a G rating and maybe a SG  depends on the judge. it would be  nice to see a video as stacking does not really show her movement. yes AKC and UKC are very different style of showing. have fun with it .

i have fun with showing and i am a beginer too, only show like 3 dogs in SV. i really like SV style of showing better than UKC/AKC.

oh and make sure you wait 12 months to show , so you can get the G or SG rating.

good luck.

smiley, maybe so.  I think your dog is great looking, I'm not downing your dog by any means, I've just never understood why people do that with Shepherds.   That's one thing I'm glad they don't do with Huskies though.

GSD guy, the rears on GSD's are set up to show a sloping backline. No one I know sets up huskies or any other breed that way LOL.

by Blitzen on 20 December 2011 - 22:12

You got it, Sara, set the rear outside hock perpendicular to the ground.

smiley, from what little can be determined from a picture, you have a very attractive dog. straight back, croup looks to be nice and long and the rear angle is good. At least for me. If her mouth is good and she doesn't exhibit poor character in the ring, I don't see anything that would prevent her getting a rating under any judge.

is her pedigree posted. would be intrested in taking a look at it.

I agree with Rik. I see nothing "wrong" with her. She's not massive, true, but that's not really in the standard...that seems to be more of a trend. Yes, I prefer heavy bone, but especially a black dog has to be HUGE to appear heavy in a pic. I think she looks fine-young but fine! Good luck and have fun.

She looks SG worthy to me from the photos.  Who knows, she may be capable of  V rating under the right judge after she gets a schH1 title.  Plenty of working lines are getting V ratings now, and her structure is pleasing to me.
Really depends on how she does in the ring, especially how well she gaits.  She will be expected to gait for a much longer time in a much larger ring than in UKC.
You absolutely should not handle her for the SV ring (unless she's likely to go ahead of you if she sees your husband or an older child who can double handle her).   But your best bet is to hire someone who knows how to show well in the SV ring and you bait her from outside the ring.
