All i wish to say is i,m with David Payne on this.Leave the ADULT CLASS as it has been for the last few yrs. n wait till we as a breed have more TRAINING CLUBS AS PER GERMANY.CHOICE was the word used when all this started up with the KC n the Regional Groups were started for the ppl.who wished to follow a system more in line with the rest of the world.Blimey entries are falling at all the shows,KC OPEN/CHAMP. n our reg.ones.We dont want the goal posts shifted resulting in more ppl.not entering.Aclose friend of mine wished to enter their animal but hasnt bbz.of the inclusion of off lead gaiting. Some animals at last yrs.B.S. in the working class werent that competant IMO.Leave the ADULT CLASS ALONE till we,ve all got to grips with this off lead gaiting phase, please.Carole S.

Our dog has all his health tests and is Breed Survey Class I - he also has his KCGC Bronze & Silver Awards and sits Gold this year.

He can off lead gait with virtually anyone - women handlers & men handlers.

We do hope to do a BH with him in the coming year or 2.

Where does he now stand - is he in Limbo?  He is eligible for the Adult Dog Class at the Sieger and we want him to off lead gait.

From what I have read and I take from the Announcement the Off Lead Gaiting is a choice AFTER the individual part of the dog's assessment is done and NOT while he is in the ring with the other dogs entered in the Class - therefore the Judge will see him off lead gait with his handler at that time.

However, I can understand where most are coming from regarding the advantage dogs that can off lead gait over those who cannot or have not had any training as such and I am sure if I was in the camp of not having a dog trained to do that I would be concerned about entering my dog.

Personally, I feel it will put a lot of pressure on the Judge as he cannot ignore those that can do and those that cannot.

We would also like to do the BH and AD with our dog, but not manwork as we do not feel it is a daily requirement.

Where do we stand with our dog now?

Maybe we are not yet ready to control out own breeds future in the UK. There is far too much of a casual and tinkering attitude and not enough intelligent forethought, planning and strategy.

Some rethinking and reorganisation is clearly required.

I believe we have to STICK with a WUSV member Club (The GSDL), however we need to form the GSDL/WUSV section exclusively for our Regional Events, etc. With membership of this section forming a basis and organisation to take us forward. With a smallish Annual membership fee of say £10. A unique membership card & number (similar to the SV) and with GSDL/WUSV membership we could offer/include the December issue of the SV Magazine (bulk ordered from the SV). This being the most interesting.

This would be the cohesive basis for our well organised and well planned future for GSD in the UK, which must fully embrace  intelligent forethought, planning and strategy.

I see such an organisation being responsible for Our Regional Events, our British Sieger and our GSD Breed Survey. I also see such an organisation forming a National Consultative Council drawn from Regional Consultative Councils and establishing Sections for the various fundamental requirements of our GSDL/WUSV System, namely "Identification Requirements (microchip/tattoo/DNA parentage" - "Health Requirements" - "Working & Training Requirements" - "Communication Requirements" - "Strategic Requirements" - "an exploratory SV - UK GSD Registration System Council" - "GSDL/WUSV & KC Consultations" - Breed Survey Requirements" - "Breed Surveyors Meetings". These may be separated or connected as considered necessary or useful.

It may look daunting, however I am sure it looks and sounds more complex and demanding that it would actually be. By establishing such an organisation we would have a very promising future indeed.

I totally agree with you David.  Your suggestions would be a huge step forward for the UK if implemented properly and set the right course for the future of the breed in the right way.  I hope someone with some common sense intelligently takes up the points that you have introduced here.  A better organised structure is desperately needed.

noddi & bazza: I thank you for your comments, however my lack of popularity (you know I don't do popularity) will rule me out in at least two ways.

1) Those who will decide such a position would NOT fully support me.

2) If they did, a significant number of them would adopt an ongoing commitment to undermine most of what I suggested.

I am fully aware of these probabilities and knowledgeable enough, especially politically, to know that our breed would be damaged by such practices. It would also seriously undermine REAL progress on GSDL/WUSV Section. Sad but very true.

I am totally convinced that my proposals would work for the betterment of our breed and the enjoyment of all our breeds supporters throughout Great Britain.

I believe that John Ward has many of the skills required and with the support of many of those already involved, probably offers our best opportunity. I would of course help and assist wherever and whenever I could.
