I am not surprised to hear this disgusting news about Derek Stapleton  as his friend and mentor in GSD breeding is John Buckley and we all know his disregard for our wonderful breed.

I see you have only joined unicorn and it is unfortunate that you should use a post that is been used to discard our truly majestic breed by a breeder Derek Stapleton to try unlawfully discard a person who has brought the breed out of the dark ages, John Buckley has done so much for the breed in this country,
The only part you got right about John is he is a Mentor but he is that to all off us, John although set in his ways and some would use the word eccentric is by far the most educated people in or breed in Ireland if not in our breed full stop,
John has travelled the world to learn every thing he could about the breed and has spread his knowledge and helped put Ireland on the map, and now helps the AIGSDA club with the knowledge he has to help the club forward and with his knowledge on the breed for there web site,
Is it not also true that sense his retirement 3 years ago that that GSA has went from the number one club in Ireland to maybe last now in the means of support and membership,
So he must have been doing something right,,

Dude /Ken

I too would not like to stray from the subject but  I think to balance the argument it has to be pointed out that for ALL Derek Stapletons faults , & there are many ! He as chairman of the AIGSDA organised probably over the last 2 years the best 2 shows Ireland has had in a long time . It remains to be seen if the new committe can continue this good work . I wish them well ! for the breeds sake !

The success of the AIGSDA shows has been a direct result of the Exibitors and not their affiliation to either chairman or commette.
With regard to comments made about Mr Buckley they will be treated with the contempet they deserve those who have had any interaction with John on any level be it informative or casual ( Having a beer )
if you do not leave a conversation with him and learned something right or wrong  then fair play you are an industry of information.
Having said all that I do belive John Buckley is quiet insane.

Point taken . But I,m sure anyone who has served on a show committee may disagree

by LBMT on 03 December 2010 - 17:12

No Fear,
That is a very good point that Derek as a chairman ran two very successful show and no one else in the committee helped him, Is it also true that he tried to Sabotage what would have been the most successful show of the year and run that into the ground, because he had personal problems with other show Exhibitors, is it also true the committee had to beg exhibitors to show at these shows,
Is it true that he tried to bully the committee and when he didn't get his own way he brought a tug brandishing a knife and did hundreds euros worth of damage to new members and committees vehicles,
No Fear there is no doubt that your are from around the show ring retired or not,
But on a personal note do you ever remember the AIGSDA run a bad show,
Gay Dune, Tony Murray, Bill Patterson, Martin Quigley, Paddy o Keefe but to name a few have all put on as good if not better shows,
Also this year has a good honest committee with a lot of knowledge between them, I’m sure nothing will be left out,

BEST OF LUCK TO THE NEW COMMITTEE

What you say from all accounts maybe true , but remenber there are two sides to every argument & some of the people Derek had arguments with are far from lily white . However I do think it is time we all moved on with personalities left aside & the betterment of the breed our main goal . Maybe along with my friends & others  we maybe enticed back

I remember fondly many of the shows previous committees of not just the AIGSDA but also the GSD Club Of Ireland used to host . The people you name are good people & are sadly missed around the rings . OH for the good old days when things may not  have always  been perfect  but at least entries were good , the atmosphere was good , judging in the main was honest , you could handle your own dogs & better still fellow exhibitors actually congratulated the winners

Good luck not just to AIGSDA but to all the  other breed clubs & show committees willing to organise any event for the German Shepherd Dog

NO FEAR

They can disagree all they like but the facts are we are a very small group of people involved in the show scene with a small amount of clubs each running a  Ch. & Open show anually and all the same exibitors attending both so it is by no means coincidental that the biggest club gets the biggest entry.
This is not to take from the effort a committee has to undertake in order to run a successful show but it would be nothing with out the "active participation" of the people entering and showing.

Look at the GSA serious amount of effort put in by the committee and fail to get the entry.

Goldenfalls

I do not wish to get into a debate with you about why shows in Ireland are successful or not as I agree with some of what you are saying so this will be my last post on the matter!

GSA show had an entry much the same as last year & this was despite a political campaign as to the shows venue by some to boycott it, which I must say as an Irishman I was disgusted at. Some exhibitors chose , which is their right to stay local & chase Green Stars , others because of the campaign & their OWN agenda chose not to enter

There was a similar campaign by some exhibitors to scupper entries at the AIGSDA show as there was a clash of personalities . This backfired & the exhibitors who showed in the end were the winners.

Again & for the last time I hope the GSD fraternity can get their house in order & we can all strive for the betterment of the breed . I wish all Breed clubs & those hard working show committees of not just the breed clubs but those general Chapionship shows who stage GSD classes all the best for the future. If done correctly & with the right attitude & spirit  you may entice exhibitors like me back because if it keeps on going the way it is , the GSD in Ireland is doomed
