Maybe where you come from. "ALL" my dogs are green when acquired or donated patrol and narc!. As far as the police comment "WHATEVER"! I will put any of my teams against any PSD or sports dogs young man. They may not be better but they do their respective jobs daily and quite well. As for your remarks about having to pick them up or whatever, once again I am going to take that with a grain of salt. The malinois has fans but far and away the shepherd is still the "MOST" used breed in LE anyways!

by vincentpmchugh on 26 March 2011 - 08:03

The department of defense only uses Malinois, the border patrol is predominantly Malinois, the Military which I just got out of not 18 years ago predominantly Malinois.

Good trainers stay on the field bad trainers end up in the Hospital, same goes with decoys.

Again let me refer to my previous post I will put  a pinch two electrics on you jerk the shit out of you while frying you at max voltage while yelling some confusing shit that is unclear and lets see how long you can handle it without getting pissed off.

Sire KNPV PH1 Dam SchH III VPG III

The AWDF is close. Why don't you take your dogs and shut up. By the way, my dad could beat up your dad.

Anyone that puts two shock collars on a dog like that should be put in jail IMO and I'm not one that is afraid of giving a very hard correction either. Stupid and ridiculous and not needed .

Martin, nothing you said could not be remedied by training and handling. I have never seen a MAli, Dutchie or GSD that could not jump into the bed of a pickup unassisted unless it was obese, sick/injured or geriatric. Sounds like the dogs were smarter than the handlers. So you look at LE training and assume they know what they are doing. I can tell imediately that they don't if what you say was true. Some LE are good handlers and trainers...I have seen them. Most are not....sorry but that is the truth all across the country.

Vincent, nice dog!

Some fragile egos are getting knocked around LOL.

GSD vs. Malinois is a really stupid debate. I have both and a Dutchie as well. Of course you have to know how to adjust training a little for a Malinois. I agree with a lot of what Duderino said and yeah they are more reactive. You get stupid as a hanlder and you're gonna get nailed. A Mali wont warn you like a GSD will LOL they just bite. Most of the time you deserve what you get. you will learn faster that way. ;)

I for one have "NEVER" used the E Collar! Prior to any of my students using the pinch collar they receive training on the proper use of it.. Many PSD trainers do not understand that you must adjust your methods when training mali's. They take corrections a little bit easier and are quicker to respond then a shepherd and quicker to forgive provided they are not over aggressive.

On a side note, I live 4 minutes from an Army Base my last assignment., train with the kennels often, They have 10 teams, 6 shepherds, 3 mali's, and i retriever, LoLlaugh  I enjoyed the topic but am getting out before somebody gets upset and goes postal!

Duke: nice video Deacon: lol, youre right people tend to take it personal real easy... Sporty: I agree w u to some extent. On a separate note, I'm not assuming anything, just sharing what I saw, take it for what it is (no hidden dark motives here) Vincent: nice pic. One would think that people understand at this point that when someone in this forum make a comment about a PARTICULAR dog, based on a PARTICULAR experience is not generalizing and throwing them all in the same bag. Apparently not.... As for what I think, I'm holding my ground, its sterile trying to compare gsds and malis, different worlds that converge in a little common zone. Ps: the effort should be put into protecting the breeds and not so much into finding a winner, because should this futile dispute continue, both will end up being loosers...

Come now Vincent, don't get your knickers in a twist!  You are getting a bit ruffled for no reason.  Just chatting here, no need to get riled.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.....I would say that this is not a new statement, but where I see beauty you might cast an ugly eye to.  No problem here we are all human and have our own individual likes and dislikes.  Mark you, I'm just saying that mals are just not for me, not because they can't work etc., and all that rubbish, they sure can.  I'm just saying that in my eyes they do not hit the beauty button.  That's all.

Nice video, but I like the one with the 9 month black GSD better.  Darn that's a nice looking dog....the black GSD that is!

Are there any good Dutchie breeders in the states?

I have a almost two year old Dutch Shepherd Male.  I have raised German Shepherds for over 30 years.  American Show lines...and German working lines.  Didn't want a really soft dog....but didn't want a dog that I needed to worry about with children.  I was getting boared with GSD which I still love to this day and always will.  But I was burned out on the people and the ongoing "battle of the GSD" Show/bench dogs versus Working/German dogs.  Any way I got a Dutch Shepherd KNPV bred.  He is awesome.  For one thing...and this is just my opinion...He was very quick to learn and seemed to pick things up much faster then most GSD.  At class he excelled.  He seemed to come into himself much faster then a GSD does.  More mentally mature at a earlier age.  He is a beautiful brindle, confidant, out going, protective, clever, problem solver.  Nerves of steal.  I also got an Australian cattle dog.  Hard core dog..working lines.  I will always love GSD.  But there was such a line drawn down the middle of "SHOW versus WORKING" dogs depending on who you talk to.  It really came down to what you want out of a dog.  For a short while in the 90's I got disenchanted with the GSD.  I got the opportunity to work with a Dutch Shepherd and fell in love with the dog.  Just the response and their work ethic.  There are good dogs and bad dogs in all breeds.  The GSD was taking a down hill drop I felt...and I was tired of all the health issues.  My GSD that I do have are marvalous.  I wouldn't change them for the world.  They are wonderful examples of the breed.  It took me for ever to find them.  When I got the opportunity to buy the Dutch Shepherd......I went for it.  So glad that I did.  He is on the larger side.  He is full of him self...and a good thinker.  He does not have as much bone mass as my GSDs do, but I guarentee...when he hits you with a full body hit...your going down.  And he is off....as soon as you say so.  He took to climbing 5 foot, six foot, 7 foot fenses like he had been doing it all his life.  I threw a frizbee on the beach and this dog had never seen the ocean.  He ran and dove into that surff like he had done it all his life...and came back with the frizbee.  He is alouf with strangers..but its not his job to be every ones pet.  He doesn't just go up and bite people for no good reason.  But he is my protection dog.  Now my Bi-Color Bitch "American show lines" can give my Dutch Shepherd a run for his money.  She is big for a bitch.  She is strong willed.  Loyal, family loving, hard working...everything a GSD should be.  That is why I get so sick of the universal saying ""show lines are all pusses"  they are not.  But you have to look hard to find the good ones...that arn't walking on their hocks.  That is another thing about the Dutch Shepherd...not so much stifle and angulation.  Makes them stronger..and their jumps more sturdy and stable.  My expierence with German Shepherds has been good.  My Expierence with Australian cattle dogs has been good.  My expierence with Dutch Shepherds has been great and very exciting.  Here is a dog that we have not ruined yet.  Here is a dog with ball drive, with confidense, with work ethic.  My Dutch Shepherd has good hips and elbows.   The local police department has a couple of dogs that I bred on the K9 force.  No disrespect...but the police breed their dogs to anyone that wants sto breed.  That alarmed me.  They keep asking me to breed my Dutch Shepherd to my German Shepherd.  They would be great working dogs I know....but I don't like the idea of crossing them.  My GSd Bitch is by a Select Ch. out of a Selec
