cphudson

I also feed my dogs raw food diet & notice very obvious changes in their teeth, coat, & over all health improved.

But my only issue I'm having is maintaining a healthy weight on raw diet. My older puppies seem to get to thin.
I started adding in oatmeal + veggies / Soujorner Farms to help, but most people I've spoken to don't need to do this. Other people also feed their dogs a lot less than I do.

I also tried the one meal in am is high quality dog food ( Albany)  & raw at their 2nd feeding. This has help the most. They get 1 cup of kibble in the am & about  2+bls of chicken quarters / drum sticks at 2nd feeding. The I feed twice as much of both. I don't have this issue with the adults just the teenagers / puppies.

They are all healthy dogs & parasite free. They are very active & worked through out the day. Plus all go on 1-2 mile off leash hikes, swimming, & free play daily. Do you think they need to increase their intake?

When I say maintain a healthy weight, they are all thin, you can't see their ribs but can easily feel them through thin layer of lining, after their rib cage they indent slightly before their hips. But without the additional add In's in a few weeks you can see their last rib or two.  I want to keep them on 100% raw diet, but don't want the weight lost.

Any suggestions?

cphudson - you're dogs don't seem overly thin from your description but I was finding that chicken, beef and tripe were not keeping sufficient weight on my dogs (they also do a lot of running) - I introduced lamb as it is higher in fat and that seems to have done the trick.

I wonder if your question is more about muscle than "fat" as I posted earlier?

Pharaoh

CPHudson,

I can sympathize.  Pharaoh is a major calorie burner.  He has endless energy.

Probably three times a week I give him a cup of TOTW soaked in 1/2 cup of water.

He is three years old now and most days I feed him one big meal a day.  On days that we go to the dog beach or he has been running like a lunatic with the kids (they play a game called horses), I give him a second feeding.
