I called the vet and he advised to take her temperature (and to remember that temperatures are often "off" for the first day or 3 after labor) and if it was over 104, to bring her in. Also advised to offer her special treats to eat to entice her to eat, but mainly to make sure she wasn't getting dehydrated. On day 3, she began eating normally and has been fine since.
With a large litter of 9 or 10 pups, if momma is eating the placentas, she just may not feel very hungry at first.

BUT..any female that we have had that whelped a litter...and would NOT eat after 2 days...(had a problem).
I would take her temp a couple times a day (to be sure no infection starts)...and offer very easily digestible meals right now.
Problem is:..if infection does start...the milk is compromised.
Best wishes...let us know how she does.

Has the bitch had the vet out for her 3 standard jabs???
- Oxytocin (clear out and helps bring milk down)
- Vit B12 (as a tonic)
- Broad spectrum antibiotic (for any secondary infection eg retained afterbirth etc etc.)
Cows milk is a BAD IDEA as it can cause a upset stomach.
Lambs replacer milk is better www.greenfarmhealth.co.uk/ fantastic for rearing pups!!!!!

I get the vet out the following day to check the bitch and pups.
Oxytocin is naturally produced in the bitch post whelp but the extra jab from the vet is a precaution well worth taking for a few ££s
my vet prefers to prevent rather than cure :)

i had a bitch that did not eat much for the first week after whelp, so i gave her some raw meat this helped.\
she will eat when she is ready and if she does not want to leave the pups put the food by her in the whelping box.
