"I have probably seen more GSD's in the show ring than out of it" Maybe there lies your problem, maybe you should have a more in debth look at these dogs in a natural enviorment before you judge them. I also find the use of the word " handicaped" OTT, having owned, bred, exhibted and worked dogs of this "shape" for years not one was ever "handicaped" by it. I would also like to ask Jemima, do you think that the other " shape" (alsation) is in any way "handicaped"? Have you been to any of the shows with these animals? Seen any of them work? Or shall i ask the non gsd world who see and know more about this breed than us?

Sorry, but no way should we get involved with this person.

Lets just go our own way - as we have been talking about for far too long.

Jemima

Please show us what you believe a GSD should look like.

There are plenty of pictures on the database and I'm pretty sure, we all wouldn't mind, seeing your 'ideal' specimen.

Go pick one and let us see where you are coming from.

Bazza, I'm no fan of the alsatian, either - too heavy, too long, too low. And while I'm here, most of the American dogs at Westminster this week were also a disgrace:

http://video.usanetwork.com/features/westminster_dog_show/herding_group/v1201773

Please pause the video at 9.50 and tell me that's OK - because it really isn't.  And yet these owners/handlers/breeders will be just as adamant. You/they honestly believe you have fulfilled con Stephanitz's vision for the dog. I and many others honestly believe you haven't.

But as I said, let's try and settle this.

Here's the challenge (to all of you): find me a top-winning dog - one about which there is no argument (in your eyes) in terms of conformation/movement. Then let me film them (on whatever surface you like although would also like to do on a treadmill ) using a high-speed, hi-def camera. I'll also film a top working dog and an 'alsatian' too.  Then let's slow the footage down and compare them and ask the experts to assess the movement.

It's when you slow the footage down that you see the problems if they're there.

If you're confident your dogs are sound, then prove it.

You either accept what Jemima Say's as a reasonable, and unemotional point of view or you don't! It's getting like politics and religion, people will never agree. Jemima says look at the facts, Missbeeb says, "there are some hocky dogs" and that judges shouldn't be putting them up, Putting 1 up gives the wrong message. Jemima mentioned Manchester and one of the worst won! Manchester show repeated it again this year. You can't stop people entering, and showing any dog, but you can stop dogs winning or being highly placed with major soundness problems. What kind of message does that send to a lay-person who is spectating at a show, who may be considering buying a shepherd. Until we get judges, to judge in a uniform and consistent way, we will always get these problems. All Champ show judges should  be breed assesses where they will hopefully be trained to be honest, and judge in a uniform way. We need to put the foundations in, before we build the walls, and put the roof on. Why are the K.C. so obsessed, and the breed doesn't see the problem with soundness in the same light. We tend to look to Germany for the future, and that things filter through to the U.K. Missbeeb, mentioned there are some hocky dogs! Fact! Last years Sieger show, 12-18 months female critiques have been translated into English, 183 in the class, over 40% over 70 females had the word COW HOCKED! now where do we go. Bill Owen.

Jemima
Have just watched your link
I have bred and shown GSDs for over 20 years the Germanic International type.
and would be ashamed to own or breed any of the dog in that ring
# there movement and conformation was a disgrace.
