I suspect that the OFT would not be able to help us directly on this as they will have limited resources and priorities which mean they will focus on issues which affect far more people than this does. I am not sure I agree that they are totally useless but you are entitled to your opinion.

My reason for quoting the OFT website was because it seemed to give a clear explanation of "Abuse of a Dominant Position" and that explanation seemed to fit our problem. (Sue, I do not think anyone doubted your earlier raising of this matter but it was "dissed" because of the suggestion of judicial review which we simply cannot afford)

Jeevs - somewhere on the OFT website I saw mention of "community interest groups" not just businesses - but I still think this route will not acheive anything for us without a public outcry prompting it.

I agree with Penny - this has to go to National Publicity not just the Canine World. The KC are using the Press to acheive their message  - we need to tell the world about their

Blackmail, Lies and Hypocrisy!

Is there anyone out there in the GSD Community who works in this field and could offer an opinion? Max Clifford - do you love GSDs?

Regards, Shirley

missBeeb - please e-mail Piers too - I agree with Sue!

My serious thought has been Jeremy Vines - this is the sort of thing he puts on his Radio 2 show and might like something topical just before Crufts? If we start now then maybe he has time to research it and then hit them with it?

At this stage I think any strategy we may have at the moment or even think of should be discussed on Saturday when we are all assembled together in the same place. Going to the National Press is an obvious choice in letting Joe Public know the truth behind what is actually happening in the Pedigree world of dogs but most importantly we need to do it COLLECTIVELY, with our FUTURE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES already set out. Whether that is applying to 100%, 50% or even 25% of our collective Breed Clubs, we must ensure that we DO NOT go to the national press half cocked. Before going we would need a definate future game plan that we are all agreed to, we couldnt have all and sundry sounding off with their own individual ideas all somewhat differing to each other, otherwise our aims would be lost before we got started.

I know for the most part we are all singing from the same hymn sheet, its just that at the moment some of us are not too sure of all the words, or if all of us agree which particular hymn is necessarily the best one to sing. We know we want to go  down the WUSV route but how are we going to organise ourselves effectively, what other strategies will we need to implement, etc etc. None of this worries me as I believe we have VERY EXCITEING TIMES AHEAD and am so fired up to make this work because I know it is the BEST THING WE WILL EVER DO FOR THIS BREED IN THE UK. But please we must refrain from behaving like splinter groups, we all must start to work together and pull together as one unit. To do that we need face to face meetings. Coming on this database and sending emails around is fine for generating support, but in order to agree anything concrete we need live meetings and to even contemplate making National Press statements before we have all agreed on the same words for the hymn, all sang it together and recorded it for prosperity we would not only do a disservice to ourselves but also to the future advancement of our breed.

When we go to the National Press let us go with a plan that has teeth, that will forecast the future of our Breed with those of us who believe the Public have a right to a guarentee that the pup they are purchasing are from Health Checked Parents but not only checked but with acceptable results. Lets not go with our guns half cocked, with an idea that we have, when we go lets do it in full armour and amunition and a firmly agreed plan designed to secure the future of our breed for the rest of time.

For now WE HAVE A DREAM, all I suggest is that before we go to the press we MAKE IT A REALITY only then will what we have to say have teeth.

Best Regards
Sue

You may all be joking about tPiers Morgan and Max Clifford, but stranger things have happened - and I support MissBeeb - Good on Yer - why dont we try.  Sue, the reason for getting a good PR is that he will surely receive all the crud from the people that give it, and with a couple of good forward thinking GSD folk, make it into sense with sound proportions, and values.... such as you describe above.

It is vital we all dont start running to our local news, I totally agree, or some of us could end up looking like nutters without a cause - all because its very scary when the camera`s are facing you.  Is ther any mileage in asking Jemima - dont send hate mails to me for that suggestion, but although her awful programme was based on sensationalism, she had the hang of the KC`s game on health issues didnt she - does she really know the truth of the matter - and would she be interested in only pointing us in the right direction for a PR bod.   Mo.

Mo, I asked Jemima if she would help us, around about the time the Bateson report was due to come out... she said she would.  I gave her Sue's email addy (twice) but I don't think Sue's heard anything from her as yet.

The Kennel Club does not seem to have any affiliations with any of the usual Business bodies that could give them a kick up the preverbial.

Hutch, having been dealing with the OFT on a private matter for the past 3yrs I can say, they are pretty much useless.  However there must be government bodies and/or organisations that could deal with this.

I'm going to do some more digging.

Before i do I'd just like to make a comment on Sue's last post.

I totally agree, but I do think Joe Public needs to be educated in a way that is more direct and lets say in lay-mans terms.
I'm not going to insult anyones intelligence, but well I do think most of it would go clean over their heads!

Hi Mo,
The problem with real PR Bods like Max is that in the main they are only interested when there is money to be made, same as Jemima. Do you really think she would have bothered making PDE if she hadnt already got the financial backing of the Beeb in the bag (not to be confused with misbeeb , lol).
Unless some company out there has an idea to set up an alternative Health Checked Pedigree registration system to not only equal but surpass that of the KC, there isnt much financial mileage in what we are trying to achieve.
I know the guy on flog it has a GSD as have some well known footballers , movie stars and even foreing Royalty but not sure I know of any PR Moguls who are GSD lovers and therfore likely to help out of the goodness of their hearts (sadly).

Regards
Sue
