My dog has a Ruffwear and I am very pleased with it. When I go market shopping, he comes with me and carries some shopping!
I have noticed that although the public can, at times, be a little 'afraid' of shepherds, especially mine as he is big and black, when he is wearing his backpack, everyone wants to fuss him! Wearing it seems to break down barriers, which isgood.

Mobjack,
I bought the palisades expressly for the hydration system.... the pack is made so that the tip of the bladder hose is outside the pack... a quick twist and I'm emptying water into the collapsible water bowl :) as an bonus the bladders are nice and cool against the dog as well. The ruffwear gear is very very sturdy and I have never had one of the clips break nor do they chaff the dog. As you know the palisades packs is much bigger than the approach so even with the 2 one liter bladders, there is still a TON of room... this pack also has a load compression system to keep the backpack tight when your load is not full. I also have an approach pack but I find I reach for the palisades more often than not :)
