And maybe the 'mediocre type' as you put it is what the majority of people in this breed do aspire to breeding as they are not extreme exaggerated mutants of the noble German Shepherd Dog which some people seem to think are correct (and I mean on both sides of the extreme divide).  Call us mediocre, call us middle of the road, but these dogs will be the saving of the breed in this country.   Left to your own devices you will continue to produce ski slope backs (both sides), knitting needle hocks or hocks that appear two yards behind the rest of the dog, toplines that are either convex or concave, and temperaments that are either so hyper they cannot even be caught if they slip their leads in the ring or so shy they cannot stand still to be handled by a judge.  Not what I nor most of the puppy buying public want.

See if you can answer that David Payne without resorting to personal insults.

David, before i start spouting forthwith, would yu clarify wot yu mean by mediocre type, coz i just dont see it?????Doppledanger ,tho.i,m on the germanic side of the breed,i totally agree with yu.i really class my bitch as middle of the road as she has been placed and won under all types of judges except the alsatian ones.i wouldnt even dream of intentionally putting her under a alsatianist.David yu have seen my bitch and others of my breeding which yu yourself have placed at breed open show level.do i take it that my bitch is mediocre as she has won a cc under Gary,s wife?i do know that some animals on the german side IMO have incorrect backlines.someone has put a photo on a thread on here, cant remember which thread it was,but i think this animals backline is no way correct.the majority on the M.O.R. AND GERMAN SIDE ARE CORRECT.ITS JUST THAT SMALL MINORITY THAT AINT.i suppose that now i,ll get some stick buy hey wot i dont care can take it.Carole S.

I too consider myself on the 'Germanic' side of middle of the road, but when judging have placed and done well some on the more 'English' side of middle of the road, because when you judge you can only judge what is in front of you.  I judged and placed well one particular bitch which I am pleased to see was made up last week at W & P B Wales.  No doubt some on this forum would have withheld from her, as she is far too 'mediocre' and 'English side of middle of the road' for them.

Ask yourselves this - who is it actually decides who is right and who is wrong?  If we consider ourselves right and people have paid for our opinion then who is anyone else to say we are wrong?   If they disagree with our decisions then they will not enter again. The one thing my maths teacher taught me was to 'have the courage of my convictions' (taught me nowt about maths lol).

dopplegander,i know the bitch yu are talking about.have meet her and her owner many a times as the owner shows in the same area as i do.i must admit she is not my cup of tea,as i find her too heavy, too long with  the incorrect depth of chest for the lenghth of foreleg.i prefer a more shapely type of animal, such as Norwulf,Jauseter and many of the germanic side.Carole Spelman RHEINMEISTER GSDS.

My challenge to anybody with the following GSD types "middle of the road" & "Alsatians"

Enter them in the Two Day Show 2010 at Weston Park under two of the best SV Judges around.

Then we will all be able to see and hear from the placings and the verbal critiques.

We can all then "Watch & Learn"

I am just left wondering how many will be entered? - I will take particular note!

Videx.
That challenge has already been put to the " incorrect types " but none have made a positive response about entering-why would they with what they think is a GSD .
Maybe they should pop along to the league show this weekend in Leicester, 193 " proper " GSD's on show-surely they must learn something there .
As for Gary Gray I remember he tried to handle once at a Breed show-failed of course-surprisingly I never saw his Going for Gold at the 2 day show or any other correct breed show for that matter.

Sorry arbeiter, I must have missed it, worth repeating though. These folk want their own little "niche market" otherwise known as a "small pond" and then they have the gall to try and convince the world they are the correct type. What a bloody cheek! They should just continue to mix in their own ever shrinking circle and their small mutual admiration society, and keep out of the mainstream in every single way, not just by absenting themselves from competing in the mainstream, for that exposes them for what they are. Silly small and insignificant. They may be able to creep around and through the Kennel Club, which proves absolutely nothing when it comes to the GSD, but when it comes to the great big GSD world they shrivel and disappear.

Even the SV are now calling for moderation and SV judges are now set to penalise unsoundness and overangulation (from what I hear), although how quickly that will be evident remains to be seen. So who is in what pond is still to be determined it seems to me, there is a long, long road ahead before that outcome is apparent.

The SV, through the National Breed Warden Reinhardt Meyer, have decided that SV Judges will pay particular attention to unsoundness in the hindquarters of the GSD and penalise appropriately and proportionately. This follows on from their similar approach on tackling the oversize issue for GSD, which incidentally is a programme they expect to take several years and over several generations.

The SV have consistently, during their long history, adopted this approach in respect of tackling any aspect of the GSD which requires correction or improvement. The SV will NOT damage the genetic pool or the genetic diversity of our GSD breed by acting with too much haste or with too little research. The SV fully recognise that faults and undesirable traits usually develop in GSD over many generations and over many years and, it would be foolish to do other than patiently introduce measures which will take several years and several generations to correct them. Such a policy offers the greatest opportunity for success, as it establishes the necessary support amongst breeders and exhibitors, who are the key to its success.

The GSD League have now clearly adopted this same sensible approach, which is clearly written in the GSD League document
