I did hear this at a trial,

He will either track or he won,t, that,s why I don,t do lots of tracking training it,s a natural action and if he will or he won,t it,s his decision...

Wasn't me but one of my friends...

A conformation show with her female that had come into season. When the judge came to inspect their stands, the female rolled over onto her back for a belly rub.

Then of course there's the classic: "Gee, I don't know what happened, s/he's never done that before!"

Does a belly rub get you DQ'ed in a conformation show?  LOL

Bob, thanks for sharing your comment - that's a unique one that I have not heard yet before.  :D

Okay, I know I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this one but here goes.
The old "A bitch was in heat therefore my intact male dog can't track, do obedience, protection, etc.... " I'm always curious with this excuse. What do police dogs do? Do police officers expect them not to track the criminal when there is a bitch in season within a half mile? Don't people think they should proof for this???

I once heard a "competitor" claim his dog's problem with the track was, "The tracklayer was a woman and it must have 'been that time'. "    Problem was the tracklayer was a man!!

You're right to put "competitor" in quotes for that guy!  Sheesh.  Actually, I'd think the dog would track better in that case....

My poor dog failed the BH because I couldn't tell the difference front Right and Left, with the Judge and myself telling me which way to turn.
Next time, Sarah Palin Cheat Sheets on my hands!!!

Since I was very familiar with the ZVV trial, I didn't need to do a routine. The judge told me where and when to go.
My first BH and counting steps, one, two, three, seven, ten, seventeen... crap, fuss... one slow two, five, twelve... normal speed... a geez two, six..eight...   and so on.
I didnt fail, I just recieved a math class recommendation,

Leave us not forget the ever-popular too-short tracking line.

Ooo... I really like that one about the tracklayer, Nia.  That's the first time I've heard THAT excuse being used.  Must have been a crappy day for Mr. Competitor when he found out it was a GUY who laid his track.
