One needs to remember as well that these dogs are quite often x-rayed at a year of age. MANY dogs will actually have better hips than thier scores might indiciate. It is not unusual for a dog from Germany imported to North America with Fast normal/noch zugelassen recieve an OFA good later on at 2 yrs. of age.

Hi SGBH, It took me a while to find the source of my chart, and then a while to get back to you; sorry about the delay. This is the Web site page and if you scroll all the way to the bottom, it has a conversion chart that compares OFA, FCI, BVA, and SV. Interestingly, enough, some of the negative comments I received on this board were likely deserved, as I was wrong and shooting off the top of my head with facts, that were a little gray at the time. I couldn't remember where I had seen the chart or the exact cross references, and confused (a6)Ausland with Noch Zugelassen (Mild Canine Hip Dysplasia). Scroll to the bottom of this page to find my chart references. < http://www.offa.org/hipgrade.html > Now having seen the chart again, and looking at the SV's Normal rating and Fast Normal rating, Normal for the SV is all the way into the FCI's B-2 Hips! B-2 is not something I would want to breed, now that I am aware of just how bad [FAST NORMAL (FCI B-2)] is, in comparison to OFA ratings. So my comments about the SV needing to tighten up it's ratings were not totally out of line, because SV normal is not NORMAL, it is actually FCI's A-1, A-2 or B-1~~and OFA FAIR! So I say to other Breeders, BEWARE of the vague; NORMAL HD ratings. Thanks for your comments and interest in my education on GSD’s and German breeding language. Super Dave
