Actually, I have been training dogs since 1992 when I started training for the Marines Corps and then for K9 International, and now for myself. The stupidest thing I have ever heard is that there is only one showline dog that can actually work. But thanks for the info anyway guy (opposite of gal).

Make that 1972 not 1992. I made another stupid mistake :)

As for you SweetPea (wasn't that Popeyes baby?), my answer is the same as someone else answered a previous writing of yours with, concerning this subject. Here it is. Sweet Pea, can you explain to me why German 'showlines' are bred to be like the West German flag? BTW FYI, there is no such thing as the West German flag, it is the German flag? The German flag contains three (3) horizontal, even sized stripes, black, red and gold (not yellow!) from top to bottom. How does that compare to the dog? Also, you write that you did not know any better a year ago and bought a showline male who would not protect you and barely holds on to the sleeve? Now a year later, you are such an expert now, that you give the advice that breeders should stop breeding these showline dogs!!! My, my, my! What a busy year you had to turn into such a super woman.Where is the thumbs up smilie, when you need it?

Do right and fear no one, Do you feel that show dogs perform as well as working dogs, across the bord. Ive seen a few show dogs that work well, but they dont seem to have the drive of working dogs. Also ive not see a show dog that is competitive in schutzhund. And by competitive i mean top 10 or so at the nationals or has a real chance of making the world team. Ive only doing schutzhund since '98 but ive seen litters where 6 of 10 pups have awesome drives. I awesome show lines can not say the same. If so why are there no show dogs on the world team? Just wonder???

I can not speak about Schutshund and I have not participated in that. I have trained for guard duties, personal protection, military and police drug detection, etc. I have never trained for the sporting fields. Schutzhund is a sport. To be honest, I have never cared about what the dog looked like. Only if they performed their jobs properly and well. There is an old saying that goes something like this. "Don't hate me because I am beautiful". I have three BSZS VA sired GSD and they respond to training just as well as anything else I have trained over the years. I guess the bottom line is that I train for actual work, not sport. Schutzhund is s sport which I highly admire and respect and do not put down at all. I just have never participated. I also have two Rotts and four Bull Mastiff/Boxer mixes that I saved from the dog pound, and they also respond well to training. Drives count for sure, and I understand them. I just get a burr under my sadle when show lines are put down by working line owners. On average, working line dogs will beat out showline dogs, percentage wise. But imported dogs from Germany are another matter.

I have a nice sized male. 4 1/2 years old. B-SchIII in 11 months. Tons of drive. Grafental all across the top. I live in central Ohio. Would produce awesome police or schutzhund offspring. OFA excellent. 7 times Schutzhund III so far.

Ron and Ronny - what is your dogs' OFA number? I can't find him on the OFA database as OFA excellent, or anything. Nice pedigree -
