Absolutely not bring stray dogs from Iraq into our country......We have more stray dogs in the USA than we can afford to keep now.....and all the disease we need....our country is also full up with people coming here from war torn countries , and we are almost dirt poor ourselves,,,our ss is about to go under,,,and we have starving people of our own and dogs and animals here in great need of help......The soldier can find a church group here in the USA to fund him and go back to Iraq and set up a rescue building portable and teach the people how to take care of animals....and help the government put rules in place...we do not need any more illegal people or dogs here.....America is in very bad shape , and it is worse than we even can talk about.....and Our government does not know how to quit spending......but they want to control our liberties,,,,well my liberty is still my opinion ,, and yes, I feel sorry for the soldiers having to see children and dogs wasting in the streets....but   our government isnt going to pay you or I, when we have not jobs, if inflation sets in  , and gOLD IS AT 900.00 NOW, and the Us dollar is worth   23 cents....so what does that tell you...How do I get help or do I starve in the streets in TEXAS,,,,,,WE ARE IN OVERLOAD IN AMERICA.......LET IRAQ GET HELP IN IRAQ,,,,,,,MANY A MISSIONARY IS OVERSEAS HELPING SUCH COUNTRIES LEARN HOW TO SURVIVE...   THIS SOLDIER CAN START A VETERINARY CLINIC AND TAKE SOME STUDENTS BACK TO IRAQ WITH HIM AND SAVE THE ANIMALS THERE....NOT HERE.....IMO....

I agree with you yellowrose.  Maybe this young mans family could come up with a better way of honoring they're sons memory than this.    I only wish people could get this passionate over real issues instead of this dribble.

I been in one of those moods all morning.   Partly due to this board and some of the dribble as I call it.   You'd think if this many people focused on real issues things would change.   But then again its supposed to be about the dogs.

Hows the lone star state today?  Its cold and rainy her in the hoosier state today.

Just wondering how your {dogs} were doing...:]

Yellowrose, how can this soldier get a church group to help him, or open up a veterinary clinic in Iraq if he is dead? Did you even read the link? I am from Canada, which is a country not fighting in Iraq, yet I still read about the goings on there. I only thought it was nice of this soldier to be caring for these dogs.

I think she meant his family AIR.     Yeah its a sweet story, yet wouldnt you agree its not the greater issue in Iraq?  And could it also be a health issue ?

by AIR on 05 January 2008 - 22:01

Yes, for sure, your Government needs to deal with its own country and the problems within it before it goes invading others. JMO. This link was only supposed to be posted as a nice story, not to cause controvery

LOL... everything turns into a controversy around here, didnt you know that?

And isnt it a shame that governments of many countries are run by fools and idiots, not to mention the truely evil leaders around the world.  Lets not go pointing fingers lest someone gets an eye put out.

It was a nice story AIR, theres alot of them out there. thanks

Thanks for sharing this sad but caring story. I can understand the family wanting to have what their son was close to at his death. I think the dogs will be cared for by others over there. Though is that not how we got into Greman Shepherds, brought back by soldiers when in Germany. People back then said the same thing, thought we had got past that. Well I did.

If I lost one of my four kids I would be insane with pain and am sure I would do whatever might make me feel closer to them.  I think that is what's happened with this family. However, if their son was always bringing home strays while he was at home maybe it would be more practical to help with dogs here.

I'm against anything that bring even more dogs here from outside the country. If you go to the Mexican border towns you see grossly pregnant dogs, puppies running through the streets, dogs run over and I have never seen one healthy dog even as far as three hours inside of Mexico.  I'm not saying there are no good pet owners but that there are uncounted loose dogs everywhere and maybe the good owners keep these dogs in the back yard or something.

But, guess what? Rescue groups go into these towns and herd up the dogs and bring them here to adopt out.  There isn't even a spay/nueter clause because most of these are private not county.  We don't need another country's dogs. We don't need this country's dogs, in great part.

In the last week alone the same person, who has shown herself to be a poor owner has posted looking for a stud. Another person is in a worse and worse state partly because of a dog who should never have been bred himself and has now fathered this litter of pups. And in any given month you will find the range of Cha-ching money grubbers who want to breed for the money and the stupid morons who say "Gee I've seen other people train dogs and I taught mine to sit plus they have ofa good hips. I should paint trainer/breeder on a board and hang it in front of my shack" to the want to take the money but look like they don't types that say "Well, I bought a dog with a Sch1 and a dog with a BH so I'm legitimate now right?".

I agree YR. We have enough idiots making puppies here. Don't need to borrow 'em.

I find my self torn by this as a soldier and and a reasonable dog owner.

From personal experience I can tell you the the bond a soldier forms with a dog like this in a time of war is extremely deep.  My Father was in Vietnam and he and his platoon adopted a stray, he used to talked about it all the time. When they would come back from a patrol he would be there to great them and love on them and bring their spirits up.  He was the one good thing they had to look forward to during such a hard time.  While they where in camp that dog never left their sides.Anyway a small group of them ending up smuggling it back to the States where he lived a long happy life.

That being said there are way to many strays in our own borders for us to be bringing them in. I know there is a Rescue for a Egyptian Cat and they bring them in by the boat loads because they are pretty. Well how about all the other right here in the USA that need homes! Dogs and cats.

Anyway I know what the family is going through but there are to many here that need help. IMHO.
