Definitely still have her checked. I had a bitch that stopped at 3 pups and was completely relaxed and nursing. I took her in and had her x-rayed and there were still 6 pups and a c-section had to happen.

On the 29th I went to get her to bring her in and bathe her and get her ready for her new additions, I noticed she had a bloody discharge which was not there the night before, so I then brought her in and placed her in the whelping room and just kept an eye on her for a bit, then I noticed the dark bloody discharge, as if she had a puppy, then I took her temp and it was 104, so I called the vet and took her in, and that's when he thought she had either miscarried or had a false pregnancy, then while I was on my way home, she actually had a puppy in the car. Then I took her back in and he gave her a shot of oxytocin.

MI GSD, thank you. That's what I was trying to explain. It happened to some friends of ours and they lost most of the litter because they had waited.

bitehard,
I'm glad you got a puppy, I hope he's healthy and strong.
I have had dogs stop labor and then have more an hour or so later.
I think your vet should have done a better job diagnosing the problem.
I was not there so I cant say.
Good luck with the pup.
Brent.

I am going to get her checked, this pup was born probably in the middle of the night, so I am pretty sure that he is it! But we go in the morning to see for sure. It is a confusing mess, even my vet is at loss on it, he never thought she was pregnant to begin with, now this!! Thanks for all the great input!

OK, I did a name search & here's what I found so far:
Dustin - valiant fighter
Gabe - present
Pepin - perserverance
Rune - hidden
Zelig - the blessed one
But I still like Phoenix the best !!!

It's my guess that there was a major problem in one of the two uterine horns. This little guy was probably saved by your quick treatment of her. You are very lucky! Congrats!
BTW the closest thing I have heard recently was that a live healthy puppy was born 2 days after the others. I thought that was really weird and lucky all at the same time too. But I think your case tops that by far!
Good luck!

Liz,
How's the Miracle Puppy this morning?
I prayed for him and momma last night. Were there anymore?
Give me a shout after you return from the vet's.
