Back to the original topic: limited registration. I never have nor will I ever purchase a dog from a breeder who will not allow me full registration rights. It is, after all, my dog after the purchase. I know of some gsd breeders who are basically a puppy mill and only have LR simply because they don't want competition. They don't care about the breed. They are afraid someone will buy their puppies and one day become breeders who will cut into their profits. I also know of another breeder who has gsds from import lines and gives full registration rights and only has one or two litters a year. Guess who produces healthier, better quality dogs? The breeder who gives full registration rights. They have established an excellent reputation in the area (the other breeders have a bad reputation).

If the evaluation is done by competent people, are you saying people will buy dogs out of breeding partners with poor ratings on basic nature, temperament and fighting instinct, hardness and courage, etc?

gg did make some very good points, as I see them and related to LR in the U.S.

I kind of like threads that wander around a bit when there are so many different views and education and they don't lead to bickering.

kind of sad I'm off vito's helper list, but I did get a laugh thinking unless he has a very slow dog, I'm fired pretty quick anyway.

It was a good thread on the topic with some very good comment! I thought LR has a slight edge though, but that’s just me 😉 ,,,,

Right now, limited is not mandated by the government, so....I'll exercise my God given right to issue Full registration....what the community of pdb thinks is of zero consequence to my life.O:-) Especially since I'll not make decisions based on committee concensus.

I see the PDB is functioning as usual with the meandering thread topic....lol.....but still has great info. and wonderful conversation throughout!

I agree with ggturner.....My money = My GSD and if a breeder advertises puppies sold on LR, I look elsewhere.
Same goes for any other ridiculous demands like, must feed this type of dog food etc.....

I also think LR sales are purely a marketing strategy for some and a way to weed out (or select) buyers for others.

The breeders I know, don't mess with LR because they've been around long enough, know how to screen puppy buyers and, like Joanro, realize that the unscrupulous buyer (if they slip through) will find a way.
