I posted the example of the long/horizontal jump because Ibrahim was looking for one. Of course a dog doesn't use the same technique it uses for a vertical jump from a stop and they use a different technique when they have a moving start as in dock diving. That's a no brainer. There are many videos of dogs dock diving, another technique to that especially when the handler is commanding the dog to jump high enough to catch a float dangling high above it's head as a part of the long jump into the water. Anyone need to see a video?

vk, you have a very good looking and athletic GSD. I appreciate all GSDs although I have had mostly showlines since 94. I take GSD's that need homes now, I no longer buy puppies so if I need a dog, I take one that needs a home. My current GSD had 7 homes in 3 1/2 years, I was her 8th. She came with issues, but she is doing great now.  Before GSD's I bred another large breed working dog and had much success. I try to train and title my GSD's in SV and AKC venues and I am very proud of their accomplishments. I have an AKC CH with a BH and an AD, maybe the only living female AKC CH with that designation.  She also has a few AKC OB titles and she  is in contention for being one of the top producing females in 2014 for producing one young male that has earned a record number of OB titles. Her sire is the only ever Am Bred AKC CH with a Sch 3, KKL1. Would he be competitive in a real working trial? Probably not but we are proud of him anyway. He is a great embassador for the breed, gives Sch demos at GSDCA NS's followed by interaction with strange children. That is very impressive to AKC breeders and hopefully they will learn that a dog that bites a sleeve is not a monster. We try very hard to do it all with our dogs and strive for the golden middle. It's not easy.

I wouldn't expect any of my GSD's to ever have the athleticism of your young male so you have a special dog IMO  and you should not be so cavalier and do a better job looking out for him. Don't use him to demonstrate dangerous jumping situations. He is a special dog and you need to treat him as if he is of value to you and not an extension of your ego/genitals. If you can't bring  yourself to do that, then send him to Florida and I will keep him safe.

Blitz i have no idea what all those letters mean. the fact that you take on dogs looking for a home is the superior title of titles imo. thanks for doing that.

point taken on looking after my dog better, dog means too much to me to take anymore stupid  risks, good advice thanks.

VKGSD, one day my husband was playing with our dog in the backyard. The grass was very wet and slippery. She was running with a stick in her mouth, and the stick caught in the ground. She tried to jump over top of it, and impaled herself on it. It went about 8 inches into her body. The vet at first thought it had penetrated into her bowels and possibly her bladder. We were very fortunate that it hadn't. It had only slid along the muscles of the abdomen, underneath the skin.

Of course, this happened on a Sunday, and the bill for the emergency vet clinic was around $1,000. And it was the LAST time he ever gave our dog beer to drink! Angry SmileRoll eyes

I thought about this accident when I saw your dog jumping across the stream with the stick in its mouth.  Just wanted to caution you that bad stuff can happen when you least expect it.  :(
