OMG! CBS news in Philly just had a clip on cancer smelling dogs, including a GSD that looked just like Ansgar, smelling the same type of cancer I have!!! I'm gonna have to find a clip, 'cause my oncologist thought I was crazy when I told him my DOG knew something was wrong!!!! jackie harris

If MD's would get over the notion that they are smarter than the rest of the world and stop looking down their noses at vets and animals, they would know that dogs have been used to detect cancer in humans for years. It's nothing new.

My girls come from a long line of disease sniffing dogs, Ansgars granddam, Schumars Foxfire suddenly took an interest in a spot on her breeders neck, & began licking. & licking there, until it began to get sore; I remember EJ, her breeder saying "I'm going to have to get my doctor to check this out before Foxy licks a hole in my neck!" Sure enough, she had thyroid cancer! Kali, Ansgars dam, used to alert to low blood sugars, without any kind of training! And now this! Are all of our GSDs tuned in to this kind of thing? Or are my girls special?

My dogs haven't alerted on anything like yours have.  But mine are very aware if I have a headache, if my back is bothering me or even if I just don't feel well.  I personally think it is simply due to the relationship that you have with your dog, how you feel about them and how they feel about you.

My fluttery friend was back this morning....fluttering around as I left to get my pre admission testing accomplished. All done, medical clearance given, & in an hour I'll start my clear liquid diet until midnight tomorrow, when I'll then be unable to  eat or drink until after the surgery. I got a call from the oncologists office today to inform me that everything was ready, & that they are requesting I receive up to 12 weeks off work to recover & complete treatment....yikes!!!! I thought 6 to 8!!! Ah well, there's nothing I can do, but just keep on keeping on, I guess!
Down to brass tacks now!

Jackie I just read the thread but know this all my best wishes and prayers are for you. You are so kind and such a beautiful person God has to keep you here for us as you always are. You helped me a great deal when my grand daughter had cancer and I will never forget it. Be strong.
