Yeah, with the temerament of a TOOL.  No, I don't think a good GSD can be easily replaced with a mal.

I think he would get a mal, the gsd has already been replaced with the mal inmany sports and work both as a police and military dogs even schh the mals are winning

the registrations of dogs have fallen here for alot of years and keeps falling
wonder why

as sunsilver mentioned, lack of versitility has put too much focus on single issues.  way back when, they picked the top 10 males from different lines, different traits and structure and the reason being they could offer a broader selection to accomodate the difference in females.  now they choose #1 thru #whatever on a graduated scale of "greatness" but the problem being that they are all essentially the same dog.  there is no longer a variety of different dogs to choose from and to pair accordingly.
breeding FOR show, breeding FOR sport have both taken a turn in the destruction of the true working dog.  rather than using these events as tools to evaluate the dogs, these events have become the goal instead and the attributes of a real working dog are becoming harder and harder to find.
i have said this before & it is true:  my granddad would have put a bullet in the head of nearly every dog i own today.  he knew the value and the traits of a true working dog.  most of mine would not have made the cut.  (these are not dogs i have bred.  they are dogs i have bought from some of the "best" lines being offered today --- just sayin')

Ok , I have a new partime job , I do interviews for a new workingdogmagazine coming out soon , and have some nice insights about some mali versus GSD topics that might surprize you , some from policeK9 trainers  ,also some other people of name have  some nice commands on this .

so I dont think the captain would go for a mali , and myret , there are reasons why SOME malis win in SCHh and it definately has nothing to do with being a versatile  quality workingbreed

“so it's simply more efficient to begin from scratch with a new organization (and perhaps even divorce the breedname).”

I suggested this to Helmut a few months ago. Suggested the name “von Stephanitz Shepherd or Sheepdog”

His reply was that it was now not necessary as RSV2000 was growing faster that expected. Lets hope he is right in his enthusiasm for the future of the breed.

How sad but true. You are not alone. I miss my first GSDs.
