Birgit, I'm not surprised you took the initiative and had a welfare check done--you strike me as a compassionate person in that respect, and I don't see where you've done or said anything cruel here. 

How sad it is that Vickie cannot even recognize that giving up the dogs *to safety* would do so much toward repairing the too-well deserved negative image she's created so far, as she has always seemed to be concerned about her reputation and how she appears to others.  The one action she presently has the power to make happen is the one thing that could unearth some positive thoughts on her behalf, and she's too broken to even see it when it's right in front of her.

I hope you're able to get Sam back soon, and any other dogs are also made safe soon as well.

It would be in her best interest to give up the dogs and straighten out her personal life.  I don't know what is going on in her life but in order to get help you have to take the first step and help yourself.  She loves her dogs to DEATH!  Loving a person or an animal to death is not appropriate.  At this point I will take the appropriate steps to get Sam back.  Too many animals have suffered and I will not let this go on.

While Vickie may be very angry, insulted or whatever right now, you did the right thing by making that call. While her threat may have been just a manipulation tatic, you have no way of knowing that or not. Until Vickie can realize and admit to herself there is a problem, she can't be helped.

I hope you will be able to get Sam back and in at least decent health. I'll keep praying for the dogs and Vickie also.

This all makes me sick that I defended her at one point back in the day.

Just to clarify, after more than 20 years of dealing on a professional basis with sociopaths and narcissists, I can assure you that unlike most people, their threats to self harm are manipulative in an effort to take the focus off of what they have done wrong and garner sympathy.  They are very good at doing that.  However, their ability to cause injury to others, animal or human, is REAL.  They are dangerous.

Got an email for me to make arrangements to get Sam back to me.  After I tried to make arrangements she threatened me again......  I love the long distance threats!  I always tell people "Be careful what you wish for"  She does not bother me one bit as I am only concerned about the dogs and I will fight for Sam as I was unable to fight for Hessell.
