No you're wrong , means the dog is very alpha and dominant and they tend to be very testy and if they think they'll try you they will , just the way it is, that's how a true working dog operates mentally , don't base your judgment on something you don't know much about , most people have never experienced a truly alpha imposing dog whose high on testostrone and needs strong handling and correction, he may not be a sport dog but when it counts that dog will come through

Shawn, who do you think you are addressing on this board...other than mithuna, no one here is so inclined as to think taking a gsd to a dog park is jolly good advice. And if you are 'disgusted with breeders producing sable and black labs', well, have enough discretion to not buy one. On the other hand, if every one produced so called 'bad ass'dogs like you believe you own, the breed would go extinct, because you describe the opposite of what you complain about...neither of which are proper for the gsd breed.

Alpha? Dominant? Man...you're just writing the book on 1970s dog training. Maybe getting out of that box and seeing some truly special dogs and trainers will help you realize what kinds of dogs you have. But that's unlikely to happen...much easier on the ego to stick around the same 10 people at the same inept IPO club that blow smoke up your ass about how great your dogs are.

I have been around IPO3 dogs and was completely unimpressed by the dogs presence, and I have been around a really civil Czech male and I can tell you its a world of difference. The physical presence of that male was awesome and you just knew that this dog " owned " the territory it was in, and that's just the way it is. being around a very dominant working line male GSD is just something you have to experience to understand it.

How do you know that male was civil? Did he try to eat you? Or were you just told "this dog is really civil."

You don't just instantly know how to train dogs of varying temperaments and sizes, you learn that skill. Women are clearly capable of learning, it's just a question of what they decided is worth learning. Most women did not learn how to handle dogs because of their traditional gender role.

The general public is clueless about everything they really need to do to get a well-mannered, socialized, and able dog. Hell, over half of US dogs are fat. It's no surprise a majority of women cannot handle more challenging temperaments: the majority of people can't even handle a Pomeranian without making it an ankle biter.
