Go with the breed you love, but if you're gonna do SchH, make sure the pedigree is full of titles and parents were active in the sport. Find a pup out of good sport breedings.

Oh yeah, beagles, not on my short list either. They smell and like to pee on the bed.

I sorta like salukis and borzois.

Isn't he adorable, RS? I just want to squeeze him til his eyes pop.

Yes, that's why I recommended the Saluki. The sport of brushing is lucrative.

Some of the nicest most willing working Rotties
we ever saw/trained with years back came out of
Jenecks kennel. http://www.jenecks.com/

He produced dogs that had size, bone & substance etc.
Good looking dogs (if you like Rotties LOL), and they had
decent balance of prey/defense etc. Happy willing
obedience dogs, not much in the way of being dickheads
when it came to handler aggression etc.  They seemed
to have decent success in getting titled etc

There are others that produced good Rotties as well,
but overall, we saw the most consistant 'type' of Rottie
coming from Eckart's breeding program.

As I said very similar to GSD but they have the Mastiff

There was actually a very interesting DNA study done within the last few years.  I don't have the names of the scientists handy, but the results showed that the DNA of German Shepherds is mostly mastiff DNA with very little herding DNA, while malinois were mostly herding DNA with very little mastiff DNA.  They even laid out many dog breeds by DNA markers of Mastiff, Herding and Hunting on a continuous scale.  Malinois, and Belgian Sheepdogs have a lot of DNA in common with Border Collies.  But German Shephrds had more DNA markers in common with Rottweilers and Cane Corsos than Malinois.  Even labradors had more DNA markers in common with German Shepherds than Malinois.
