After reading all this i,m glad i,m a RAW FEEDER,at least i know wot goes in my 2 gsds mouths......Fresh ingredients from suppliers of human grade meat thats supplied for dogs.I,ve been feeding raw for donkeys years n all this talk of getting salmonella is pure codswollop.My dogs very rarely have to attend the vets n when they do its coz.of old age problems.I have a 12 yr.old GSD female who has only been at vets for pup vacs.hip scoring,c-section(the only one of my females) n then a pyometra(once again the only one)Also have her daughter n she,s only been for pup vacs.,she,s now 9 yrs n raw fed for most of her life.She hasnt been mated,so not been hip scoreMaybe the OP.should consider RAW as it seems to me that there,s continuous recalls of many brands of kibble.Carole Spelman Rheinmeister Gsds.(UK)

We fed Diamond food years ago and then had some issues with a few dogs keeping weight on and switched. Then they had the huge issue a few years back and I decided to avoid any product remotely affiliated with Diamond. Even though so many people raved about ToTW and it was a good price and easy to get (close by) I just couldn't go there. 
We fed Acana for about a year and the dogs did VERY well on it. My issue with them was that they have issues getting product and will just run out of food for periods of time. When you are feeding 11 dogs, a sudden switch due to the food being unavailable is a nightmare. After the 2nd time it happened in a 6 month period we gave up and moved on. 
We have now been feeding Nature's Variety Instinct for almost 2 years and have been extremely happy with it. Instead of rice or some other binder they use tapioca which is what vet schools use for dogs with food sensitivities. 
We feed the Chicken.

Anecdotally I believe that all the recalls we have seen in recent years are almost always tied to dog food that has "chicken meal" or a "red-meat by-product" listed as an ingredients.  I feed Natrual Balance Fish and Potato and in the past have feed Wellness Core Ocean and Instinct.  Natural Balance Fish and Potato and Wellness Core Ocean have no chicken of red meat by-product in them.  Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Formula has "chicken meal" in it.  For example it doesn't look like TOTW Pacific Stream Canine Formula  was recalled which does not have "chicken meal" or a "red-meat by-product" .  Does this mean that fish based dog food is made differently than dog foods that have "chicken meal" or a "red-meat by-product" listed as an ingredient ?  I don't know because no manufactuer will answer that question.  It would seem to me that fish based dog food is made differently and/or possibly in an isolated part of the factories away from the "chicken meal" and "red-meat by-products"  .

Second I think quality control in the factories that supply the Southern and Eastern USA are also anecdotally more likely to be involved in recalls than the factories that supply the west coast.  No proof, but when I look back at all the recalls over the years and make note of what was recalled and where, my above ideas seems to play out.

Momsgarage, it was MY understanding when I called TOTW (Was feeding Bison formula) that the fish varieties of Diamond products are produced at DIFFERENT assemply line locations that that of non fish products, so that is why Natural Balance and the fish TOTW weren't recalled because they contain fish, and like you said, not another source of meat.

This was what the representative told me, whether or not it's true, I'm not sure...Either way, I'm not taking the chance, so both of the kids are now on EarthBorn Holistics Grain Free foods for now.

Momosgarage, I just read the ingredient list on N ature's Domain and there is no chicken meal listed. Humidity in South Carolina might have some influence on unwanted micros. But I think it is mostly over-reaction by the media and public. Back in the days of Kennel-Ration, I don't remember any recalls...ever, and no dogs or people died from it. I even used to munch on it while feeding the dogs because it smelled so good.;)

I feed Fromm Gold, love the food, my dogs will even eat it dry.
