Here's that same dog's full sister, just as dirty and unbrushed as he was, but clearly not unusual.
And here he is again, with no evident pattern until he was at least 9 months old. The pictures I posted on page two of this thread were at 10 months and 12 months age.

That is extremely interesting about the unusual pattern. It would be interesting to see if he himself reproduced the pattern in his offspring.
