Now this has been interesting but oh so typical of the Brits. Never agreeing on anything, that's why the rest of the world think we play at this, and are never taken seriously. Some want a protest, then some change there minds and want only item number 9  'scored out' or 'tipexed out'. I can only assume that was supposed to add some ( more) humour to this thread!!! Then we get the ' leave the kennel club and go it alone'  brigade, next the ' pledges' for the 'fighting fund'!!!! The last lot are the 'have our cake and eat it', have any of you thought how ridiculous you all sound?
One thing is for sure you will never beat the KC, never, so either accept it, or get serious and take charge of your breed and use your pledges for something worth while. If you do not use this golden opportunity to bring the breed into line with the rest of the world, i fear you never will!!!

You have a point, Bazza... many things have been suggested on this thread... many good and potentially productive things!

I truly think we CAN beat the KC on this... IF, we have enough support and money.  However, I am willing to back the majority, regardless.

I was "brought up" with the (inherent) conviction, that one stands up for what one believes in...  I believe the KC are wrong, morally (certainly) and legally (?).

We are actually in a win, win situation, we simply need to collectively decide whether or not we leave without a fight!   Either way... GSD life goes on!

by Blerio on 09 January 2010 - 20:01

Allo Missbeeb, I agree with bazza, We wont beat the K.C. Nor should we even try, "judicial review" would take forever, and may cost more than most can only dream about! The money generated by donations probably wouldn't cover the cost of the paper clips! in a legal fight with the K.C. Remember principles become very expensive. I don't see a win, win, situation, if we stay in the K.C. beaten once again, the morale will be on the floor for a long time, and the show scene may never recover. If we leave, it will be an uphill struggle, with many shows showing a great loss. But masters of our own destination. We must take out the emotion and hype from this situation, and handle it like a business deal, based on what is the best course of action economically, for the future of this breed. regards Bill Owen.

Hi Bill, hmmmm... on (reluctant) reflection, you may well be right.  I wanna whop their ass... how good would that feel?  Yeah, maybe the reality has to be more practical and as you say, business like... however, I never entertained the idea that we would be beaten, I honestly think we could win, but money is an issue!

As I said previously, I will back the majority and happily "do my bit" to assist.

You can’t beat the KC they have thought long and hard on how to to get us to show our dogs the way they want, they won’t move from that stance, anyone who enjoys the SV style of showing should make a move now to form their own organisation to handle shows and registrations it's done in Holland we can do it here
We need someone with a cool head and a legal mind to call a meeting to form a steering committee to get the system started.
Is there sombody willing to call a meeting

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

In September 2009 after having already put a Plan B Article onto the Database with only a minimal reaction from anyone on here, and having been prompted by Sue Bellfield to submit my writings to the GSD Partnership, I forwared my view of a Plan B to the Breed Council and Joe Summerhill around about 26th September 2009.  To date I have had no acknowledgement from Joe and only a recent message from Sheila saying she has got it, but cannot now find it - a copy has now been forwarded again.

I will add it here for you all to read - personally I think it is worth a read and perhaps a few comments from some of you only appear to acknowledge a certain few on here, it might be nice to hear from you on something that was put forward, but has since disappeared in the mists of time.  My Plan B is timed and dated on my Computer and the copies forwarded will tell it as so.

THE POSSIBILITY OF THE GSD COMMUNITY MAKING A COMPLETE BREAKAWAY FROM THE KENNEL CLUB CREEPS EVER NEARER

A complete breakaway from the UK Kennel Club creeps every nearer after the KC Chairman, Ronnie Irving, made an unjustified statement the undertones of which basically mean that if the present GSD Community in the UK do not tow the KC line they will be thrown out of the KC.

Following on from this astonishing statement by the KC Chairman I would like to put forward my opinions and suggestions that may go some way to promoting a new GSD Registration System in the UK should a breakaway be necessary.

I would be happy to forward these IDEAS to all Clubs/Exhibitors/Breeders etc who are interested and who would consider backing this breakaway – these are by no means comprehensive and I understand there will be many more ideas put forward in the coming weeks and months ahead.

The West Yorks GSD Club has already put forward many valid points that should also be applied to a NEW GSD REGISTRATION SCHEME IN THE UK and I am certain many GSD enthusiasts fully support their suggestions.

I have highlighted some of the most important issues before us:-

The Ultimatum by the KC regarding the CC Allocation in 2012 has OPENED THE DOOR for us and gives OUR BREED (the Breed which belongs to the owners/breeders/exhibitors and keepers of GSDs in the UK – NOT THE KENNEL CLUB) 3 years to implement the following issues and take action on them so that we are prepared to change over when the time comes –

1. ALL GSD BREED CLUBS in the UNITED KINGDOM - whose Committees & Members advocate a Complete Breakaway should call EMERGENCY EXTRA ORDINARY GENERAL MEETINGS as soon as is possible to legitimately BALLOT all Members of their Clubs on the decision to make a Complete Breakaway from the Kennel Club. It may also be pertinent to hold REGIONAL OPEN MEETINGS for those that are not Members of any particular Club, but have a vest interest in all things GSD be it Working or Show.

2. At these Meetings the following issues can be discussed and perhaps an Information Sheet containing these issues be distributed to the Members of all of the participating Clubs prior to the Meeting so as to prevent long drawn out discussions as we all know happens at these Meetings.

PART I - FIRST AND FOREMOST

(a) We must find a Registration Service suitable to our Breed and at a more reasonable cost than is the case at the present time with the Kennel Club – a Company similar to Fosse Data Systems (not saying it has to be them as they work with the KC already) who have the facilities to set up this Registration Scheme – HOWEVER any sensible Company Owner will realise that the 2nd largest Breed in the UK is a profitable business – as the Kennel Club has already proved. A deal could be arranged in the proper business manner with the approved Company to charge say a nominal Fee of just £1.00

per dog to re-register ALL EXISTING GSDs who are already registered with the KC at the present time, this nomimal charge to be used from date of implementation and up until a cutoff date to be decided by the new Governing Body (see below). Exhibitors, owners & breeders to be responsible for transferring their dogs/stock over to the new System. This small fee would generate thousands upon thousands of pounds for the New Scheme.

(b) Transfer of ownership, registering of Import animals and registering of all existing Affixes to be changed over as and when the scheme is up and running efficiently with appropriate prices for these services. A New Affix System could be implemented once the system is up and running smoothly.

PART II

From an appointed date, say 6 months (July 2011) before the launch of the New Scheme in January 2012 exhibitors/breeders and owners could start registering existing stock plus any new additions to their kennels or in their ownership from that date forward and any litters etc.

(b) This Registration Service to include the implementation of a GSD ACCREDITED BREEDER SCHEME which incorporates the 2-Tier Registration System with Pedigrees to match this Tiering System, as in the systems that has been suggested many times before – see West Yorks proposals. Decisions on Pedigree Paperwork reference colour of Pedigree and content to be discussed at a later date once the Service is in place.

3. ESTABLISHMENT OF A GOVERNING BODY

(a) Whilst a Database incorporating Part I & Part II above are taking place then all Clubs involved need to create A GOVERNING BODY to take the plans forward and perhaps this Body could be called “THE UNITED GERMAN SHEPHERD DOG CLUB of the UK” (only an example – someone may come up with a more appropriate name) incorporating all 4 countries of the UK, the Constitution of which has to include all the basic Health Standards in use at the present time with clauses allowing additional health schemes to be added to this in the future.

(b) ALL BODIES, who support these plans must agree in writing to join the new GOVERNING BODY and by doing so must agree that a NEW GSD BREED COUNCIL be started for the purpose of putting in place all the available HEALTH ISSUES that are necessary to move our Breed forward into the future.

(c) All the Health Issues CAN BE undertaken separately from the Kennel Club, NOT ONE PERSON REQUIRES THEIR PERMISSION to use the Schemes in place and should the BVA NOT support our plans, which I very much doubt when income is at stake, then we can always set up a system in this Country with the help and guidance of the WUSV on a similar par with Germany or any other Country the Governing Body (Member Clubs) feels appropriate – Penn Hip as an example comes to mind. The SV will most likely take on the UK Clubs if the KC themselves take steps to “throw us out”.

(d) Another example – the Haemophilia Testing is now done by a Company, Iddex Laboratories, and no longer by an individual, therefore these companies are not going to turn down good money that they are already receiving due to outdated attitudes of the Kennel Club.

4. Once there is a Governing Body in place – decisions can be made on the following:-

(a) Costs of Registration (Puppies and Adults/Transfers/Imports/Affixes & maintenance of Affixes etc – see Part I (a) above for suggestions).

(b) Adopting the CORRECT BREED STANDARD – THE WORLD STANDARD in accordance with the Country of Origin of our Breed.

(c) Removal of the word “ALSATIAN” from the correct GSD name.

(d) The Basic Health requirements to move from Tier I to Tier II in the system.

PART III

(e) What kind of Awards can be implemented to make up a Champion and how many Awards does a dog/bitch require to make the grade. Stud Book Database created along with a Champion Database.

(f) All the existing Breed Shows CAN still be held WITHOUT THE KC LICENCE, as basically most are held on Council or Privately owned ground and the owners or Councils really only look to being paid the Fee for the let of such ground and that the Clubs have appropriate Public Liability Insurance Cover – NO MORE KC FIELD OFFICERS at Shows. Rules can then be be set down to be used in case of any misdemeanors at Shows and dealt with directly by the Governing Body.

(g) Insurance Companies will be happy to issue Policies to Clubs whether with the KC or not, as the bottomline issues are ALL ABOUT MONEY and they will not want to lose money they have previously had in their coffers
