I again agree with you The Breeders breed what people want, and some believe that if it is aggressive towards the owner that it is hard, sometimes yes and sometimes no but I agree that they may well be a litle handler soft so you can work the dog without the dog biting
I myself have one of each of my female is very handler soft litle to much for my opnion

lol..yes it is hard to get that right balance. I know I prefer handler soft/responsive. A lot easier to train and work with and it doesn't take away from their ability to work.

looool I wil look into the article here in Scandinavia its time to sleep will look tomorrow

unfortunately the health of the breed has is not improved on the contrary, we see the world around a massive increase in allergies and back problems and of course other bone problems in the gsd cancer, unfortunately.

I read the article tomorrow

I agree with you if the dog is so aggresive towards the handler then all of what it was breed for has gone the opposite way because a gsd should be abble to take commands from his packleader, but of course the dog does not have to be a wreck and have bad nervs because it is nervours of you

If you look at the people that works their dogs many of them today is worn down much earlier today than in the old days many consider a shepherd for the elderly in 6-7 years of age and many look like they are 12 years their bodies are worn down

Paul wants West German though so that would knock alpinek9 out. Eurosport i believe comes across a few west german dogs.

The only dog I found by that name is a high line dog and would be 33 years old. Just a little old for me LOL.
I can go to Germany and look myself but transportation is just too high and so many brokers say " I have just what you are looking for" and wha la it's not. and I am not spending $10,000 doing this. It will come. I can always get a Mal, cheap but I can not breed it. They are civil enough. Yes the gene pool for czech dogs to be civil is still out there. I owned a half brother to Grim that was a good dog, but still prefer west german. They say you only get one great dog in your life. Well I have owned two and now looking for the third. I have time.
I have enjoyed the responce and look forward to more.

Not sure what you are talking about here Paul, lined on what? I don't seem to find Fero in this pedigree. I might be looking at the wrong one. This dog, if any is lined on Grief. The lines with Fero, and I know you are not a big fan, complements the Grief line marvelously! The two, along with the Gildo complements each other. They all bring a balance in the line that produces not only civil hard dogs for both PP but also for the sport.
I am not looking for a purely civil dog, this is a one dimensional mindset. I'm hoping you are not one! That is, a one dimensional mindset kinda person. I'm looking for a dog that is versatile as they come. I like the GSD for this! If you are purely looking for a civil dog, there are many out there from different breeds, not just GSDs. Darn it, you can even find them at the pound! Hope you have liability insurance though. I don't want to have a relative come into my house unannounced and this dog goes ape shit on them. I would like to take my dog to the park and play ball without fearing that this ao is going to turn and latch unto some kid riding her tricycle!
I remember a fella that had a son Troll son. Civil as they come, too hard for any decent scores in obedience, and bit many spectators, including handlers. Everyone jumped to the conclusion that's what they wanted. Well, the history has it that everyone that brought their dogs to breed with this "meanMF" ended getting rid of the puppies. There is a balance that is needed, and purely civil is not it!
I hate to say this, but there are people on this thread that are DDR and Czech crazy and are big followers of Alpine. That's fine! At a moments notice the only answer they give for these kind of dogs is ....go see Hans at Alpine! Well, let me tell you this, if Hans is perpetuating this kind of dogs, he can keep it. I have looked at his site and he does have nice looking dogs, etc. But like you Paul, I'm a WG kinda guy. This mind set needs to be adjusted. The GSD was not intended to be a purely civil animal. Schutzhund was designed originally to test the dogs protection instinct and working ability to evaluate the dogs for breeding or carrying on the line. Well, what the heck, let's in doing so, make a sport out of it! No harm done as long as the objective is carried on with the original guidelines and not money driven. BouYa!

Maybe that is my fault. AlpineK9 DOES NOT promote "civil only" dogs. He is big on dogs that are well balanced that are versatile and can do everything rather than just 1 job. When we said "go see AlpineK9" we are meaning that he can get you a civil dog that you are looking for but it will also be balanced as well. It will be a dog that can go anywhere and be ok but can also turn it on and be civil.
I agree that breeding dogs to be civil is the same as breeding dogs that are high prey monsters to only do sport. Your are not doing anything to help the breed as the dog is one dimensional.
