Jen,
I had originally typed:  "Then stop doing obedience, if you do it."  I figured you must be doing something with your dogs.  I'm sure you don't have a bunch of unruly, poorly behaved dogs at your house.

Why must you take what I said out of context? You asked why I dislike sport tracking and I explained. Am I not entitled to have my personal preferences? I never stated anything about a FH dog not being able to track, all dogs know how to use their noses.  We don't have to teach them how.  I just don't buy that it's any better indication of a dog's scenting abilities, I don't care how difficult it is to train for.

I'm trying to remember how many dysplastic dogs I bought from Joe Kuhn back in the late 80's.
He had some good dogs, alright, but I felt like I rescued every single one I took out of his place, (at great expense back in those days!) and that came to quite a few, believe me. I'm pretty sure he paid off his farm in Illinois thanks to me in '87-'88.

And you continued to purchase those dysplastic dogs....right:-) The man is deceased. You of all people should know better...I know plenty of individuals that would say differently!

FH tracking is good test of scenting abilty.   So is Schutz obedience a good test of biddability?

Please explain how FH or SchH tracking is a test of scenting ability?  And NO, the obedience phase is not a good test of biddability either, IMO.

And if we really have to go into it, the protection phase is not a good indication that the dog will protect, nor the courage test a good test of courage!

Daryl.. not an answer,

Again, what is it you do to test your dog's nose?
Have you ever done FH2 Track? just curious..Have you ever passed an FH track with a dog..... or any tracking AKC or even have a single purpose dog (areal search) or Dope dog or explosive dog.. Have you? Have you done man tracking? I am beginning to wonder. Mostly people would give me an answer not repeat their opinions. I want an answer with logical, experienced back up.. I am kinda tired about reading someone elses opionons based on internet research and somebody one day told them and they think they got it figured out by reading a book and tossing a ball to shrubs.. I do that with 12 week old puppy,.... noting special to me.

I never seem to get a simple answer.
I am not being rude, mean or anything but I want to know how do you test dog's ability to track, use nose or anything associated with scent work!

Start a new thread then, and include a good example of a dog with poor scenting ability with it.
