Blitzen, I'll do you one better. If you email me, I can tell you more. I can't post it here, of course, but gawd, it's a must-read.

Please, if you do know an honorable breeder who won't stick it to a newbie on the East Coast, I'd really like to know.

You live and learn. I think Rooka explained it best on page 12 of that thread. The original two threads regarding that situation were deleted.

as I'm going thru the same thing atm and know how much it hurts and how stressful it can be I went so far as to get my girl scored as she showed no out ward signs of being in pain(or so we thort at the time she is a tough working dog with a high pain threshold she is much more active now and a much better eater)
she came back 14 on her good hip and 51 on the bad hip (thats really bad)
she is from a repuiable breeder and going back generations seam to have good hips and elbows(as far as you can tell with dogs scored under a different system to ours any way)
for me it is doublely devistateing as not only is she my pride and joy she was a single puppy litter and is and exceptional dog so the genetic loss is stagering as well
atm while we work out the best option for her (she is 18 months) she is on a herbal anti inflamitory, rose hip (for the vit C)
glucosamine and conjointron (with msm is fine to)
and she has just had 1 shot of catrofen(pentosan) a week for 4 weeks and it really seams to be helping (then monthly and then 3 monthly)
we also keep a non steroidal pain killer/anti inflamitory on hand in case it's needed
she seams very happy and is a changed dog no longer is she my quite shadow with perfect obediance now if I'm not careful she's off after a roo while on our walks(while my hart is in my mouth hopeing she dosen't hurt her self)
we also aim to keep her very fit slow walks swimming and an amazeing under water tread mill at the local hydro therepy center (k9)
hope that helps it is not cheep but it all depends on how attached you are for me I waited 8 years for this dog and I will spend what I need to to keep her with me as long as she is happy and not in to much pain
we are also going thru surgery options but I have yet to have a compleate answer re recovery percentages and times (so am waiting to hear)
