Go with your gut. When my puppy lay beside me on the couch and I would stroke her side I could feel her ribcage protruding and her back bone was quite prominent. I was feeding her home cooked, canned and good kibble yet I just had this feeling she was too skinny. I had never felt a ribcage like that with any other dog I had ever owned. She just never gained weight. I used to call her Ronny Scrawny as she was a bone rack. I knew something wasn't right but I didn't listen to my gut. Then the loose stools started, the ravenous appetite and the numerous trips to the vet, only to find out she has EPI. At that point she was down about 15 pounds from an already skinny dog.
So, from my heart I ask you what is your gut feeling. I think deep down everyone knows when there is something not right and if you feel something is not right and your pup is simply not gaining weight then you should act on it.
Have a look at the 7 week old Malinois video on here. That reminds me of every puppy I have ever owned in the past.. Sturdy and filled out. That was never my Maya.
I'm just saying..... you asked for some advice,,,,, I am no expert but I am answering from my heart.
