Lyme disease bacteria take cover in lymph nodes
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/06/110616193911.htm

Hopefully, it is just the lymes disease- it can cause swollen lymph nodes! Having to wait 7-10 days is a long wait. Can you pay to expedite the test results? Thats what I always did. I figured I pissed away more money in my life than expediting a test would have cost....

Yes, its true it sounds awful to say one hopes it is lymes, but that would be the best for prognosis :)

7 to 10 days seems long to me. I had the results on my dog within 48 hours and the oncologist did it on site. Sigh....more waiting and worrying. Keep the faith, try to not assume the worst.

Blitzen, the time difference is probably due to the fact that Mike's working with his regular, general practice vet who has to send the samples out to an outside lab or university lab, whereas you were working directly with an oncologist who was able to read the slides themselves.

Our biopsy took 7 days, if the vet has to send out the specimen to a pathology lab, 7 days is a reasonable turn around time, although it feels like forever. You want to be sure, & most labs have 2 pathologists view each specimen independently first, then discuss their findings if there is any question about what their report should be. Waiting sucks, though; I sure hope it's Lymes disease! Any response in his nodes to the antibiotics? jackie harris

My dog had aspiration biopsies that were completed very quickly. The first submitted by a GP vet who called me 2 days later with the results. If he'd have had a node removed or sectioned it probably would have taken longer.

Some vets aren't comfortable reading aspirate slides when it comes to cancers, while others prefer to only have to charge the client for one procedure, so they automatically advance to sending out the tissue biopsy instead.  With all the good will being sent Mike & Rasto's way, here's hoping that those LNs are getting smaller by the day and the antibiotics are pointing the way toward a Lyme diagnosis.

Diagnosis of lyme should not be relied on using point of care tests...that's a rip off.
