Here's a recent pic of my dog, Ares.  He's a bi-colored black & gold, because he also has tar-heels.  Otherwise, he'd have just the blanket.  He's also a long-coat which is another recessive gene.

Alot of these dogs are melanistic black and tans. Tarheels and toe-penciling are the easiest, most obvious indicators. My avatar, V Capri vom Hagenberg, is a true bicolor, and this puppy's dam.

Avasha vom Eisenherz, who is not mine, but out of my last litter- Ava, as she's called, IS a BICOLOR. Here she is a few months old, and below as a tiny pup:

Very nice example Jenni.  I don't have a true Bi, so the best I could come up with was our extended blanket pup

Here is my boy, Jerry Lee. I call him a black bicolor.
Here's his pedigree:

The last few dogs on this thread are TRUE bi-colors, the rest are Blk/tans some are more blanket blk/tans. When you see a TRUE bi-color they are gorgeous. Jenn that pup is GORGEOUS. So to answer your question about the first dog, he is a blanket blk/tan not a bi-color.

Quel od Policie has a patch of color behind his ears and on his cheeks, on his chest, he doens' have the tar marks on his feet.

this makes him a very, very dark black and red..(blanket not saddle back)....not a bi color.

In slovakia he would be refered to as a bi-color whethere a true bi-color or not.
