My dogs get into all kinds of stickers, Fox Tails are the worse. I spray them with Sho Sheen. It is a horse product I dilute it about 3 parts water to 1 part sho sheen.
If it is fall when things are really bad then equal parts.
Mud, stickers nothing sticks.

Can not believe you "shepherd" lovers are going to keep a long coat; a grooming nightmare you understand. Everyone I see is not groomed usually at all, look like hell.
Although have done Samoyeds since 1973 if you can imagine: love my GSD boy, "wash and wear" coat. The best to you all, Nan
PS: coconut oil internally l/4 to l/2 tsp in food also helps, also good externally to rub into coat. or put in spray bottle with hot water and spray down. Smells good too. Nan

When you think about the GSD as a working dog breed a longcoat doesn´t really make sense.
My male, although he was a long stock coat, needed A LOT of grooming, and worse, he needed hours to dry when he became wet.
Snow? He wasn´t even able to move anymore...snowballs everywhere
Ticks? Good luck finding them...
Think about a dog working outside...
Xeph, I am on my cell right now, difficult to see the differences in the pups, but I guess I like the one that laid down underneath the waterbowl within the last seconds of the video ( because of behavior + conformation ).
Is this your "pick" ? In case it is, don´t care about coat or not, it´s about the whole package - and it´s pretty easy to get rid of "coats" within 2 generations.

Susie, believe me there is a lot more 'wrong' with Sheila as a Shepherd than just her coat ! Lack of pigment; dreadful long-backed short-legged shape, coming from the 'Alsatian' camp; lack of 'drive' - not all about her advanced age; hare feet; soppy, over-friendly to people, dog-aggressive to some extent, the list seems endless. (Not to mention: chicken killer. Ooopps!) If I had bred this, I would die of shame. The lack of water-resistance for working comes a long way down the list. But she keeps my feet warm, in the evenings, and is cheerful (if not terribly bright) company, bless her; and she gets me out of the house a few times every day.

Xeph, best of luck with Riza. She is a darling. Are you planning on showing her at all, or would it be a bit of a waste of time/money since she is coated?
Nan, I have 2 long coat GSDs that I assure you do not "look like hell". They are not a grooming nightmare either and do not pick up plant debris any more than my friends' standard coat GSD. They also shed water much better than my Australian shepherd does; the only dog I have owned that would get snowballs is my Miniature Schnauzer. My 2 GSDs have a much different texture than my uncle's Samoyed, whose coat WAS a grooming nightmare. The only time that dog looked really good was immediately after being professionally groomed. Maybe because my girls' coats are not super long makes a difference. Anyway, it seems not all long coats are created equal seeing I have never had any of the problems many on PDB seem to have with long coats.
