I never said that. I just have an "aloof" GSD! I love an "aloof" GSD! He's not shy at all towards strangers, rather most are afraid of him, just by his look and "aloof" character.

Now, once you are accepted as family, he'll likely become your best friend.

Synonyms of aloof in English (as per OXFORD):
distant, detached, unresponsive, remote, unapproachable, forbidding, stand-offish, formal, impersonal, stiff, austere, stuffy, withdrawn, reserved, unforthcoming, uncommunicative, indifferent, unfriendly, unsympathetic, unsociable, antisocial, cool, cold, chilly, frigid, frosty, haughty, supercilious, disdainful.

Now YOU decide how many of these traits do you want in YOUR GSD.

I will take them all, thank you! You aren't going to see my "aloof" GSD jumping into any strangers truck and being driven off!

The key point is, after I, the Master acknowledges you, as welcomed and a friend, then he'll want to be your buddy. BUT not before! ... because of his aloof character.

BTW, I am a wordsmith. I just love words.

Your choice beetree, all dogs are good as long as their owners (and neighbors) aren't complaining. Just do not demand to include that word in the Breed Standard. Too many breeders tend to play with words to offload their crap....

You already have inserted your word preference for "inquisitive"! I thought you were talking about a cat with that one!

No need for me to insert any, as I'll be happy to acknowledge the authority of Fred Lanting too, with his interpretation of the German SV. I am not a breeder, either, so take a deep breath, I won't be making copy for any ads.

I haven't inserted anything, I said a GSD should be inquisitive, not suspicious.

A SHY (aloof) dog is suspicious of ANYTHING or ANYONE. An inquisitive GSD will, after the owner allows it, inspect everything and everyone before considering something or someone a threat.

inquisitiveness is having or showing an interest in learning things. How do you get THE MOST VERSATILE BREED without that?!!!

It's just that some words with multiple meanings, when inserted into the Breed Standard, make the job easier for the crappy breeders.

Had the AKC, KC & co also have the same respect to "the authority of Fred Lanting too, with his interpretation of the German SV".....

Again, aloof is more at "distant"in the sense of standoffishness, not shy! Shy is based on timidity! Aloofness, see above, is about being unapproachable because of a formidable presence.

I always thought Fred Lanting had a very respected reputation among all the GSD governing bodies. You think differently?

No stopping those crappy breeders; a few choice words to wend, won't worry their wads.
