And we're starting schutzhund...

Sunsilver, I like her. I like her mom a lot too. I don't know those lines really well, but I like what I see as far as looks go. The top part, honestly I don't know the german sl that well. Thanks for sharing.
Wow Blitzen I didn't know Sheree Moses was mixing them up too. Thanks for that info. And of course I knew about your girl. I think she is a gorgeous girl. And Gator, well, I have always liked him even before I really knew who he was...........I went over to Helen's site not long ago and she really has some nice dogs. Again not knowing the german sl very well but I have a good eye for a dog and I know what I like.
Does Dan Smith have a website? I have heard of him and who he is but really don't know much. I'd like to check his dogs out.
Good luck on you and Bev's CDX and RA..........you;'re a good trainer and you have a great dog--you guys will do fine..............

I won't speculate on the bloodlines. Was he found in Seattle proper, or just the Western Washington area? He seems to be a nice boy and I would think someone would be looking for him.

My friend has a WL male that is 100lbs and a huge brute of a dog, and one of his littermates was too.
His mom was 60 lbs, dad was 70.

I think their "drives" (or lack of) are in a big part dependent on how the puppies are raised. As we well know, the ASL owners/breeders generally surpress any sort of drives that might suggest that a dog will want to "bite". The majority of them don't allow puppies to play with tugs and ankle biting is a big no no. Things owners and breeders brag about here would be taboo on an ASL breed board. This is a culture that is so deeply ingrained in the AKC world that it's hard to convince many ASL breeders that a Sch titled dog isn't going to be a liability. They just don't get it, don't want a "dog that bites" period so they do all they can to surpress any drives they consider undesirable; that pretty much covers just about anything that would indicate a desire to bite anything. It would be interesting to see how many more ASL x GSL and even 100% ASL's could achieve a Sch title if they were raised more like a real German dog

Smith has a website, google Darby-Dan. Did you see the photo in The Review of the Fiemereck female he just finshed? Beautiful, not hard to see how she got an AKC CH title. Sheree bred to a Wilhendorf dog I think, is/was showing a female from that litter. Maybe finshed by now.
The CDX and RA is on the back burner for now. She's in season again, so she's going to be bred.

I absolutely agree Blitzen about supressing the drives. Back in the early days I used to go to AKC shows and I know then you never breathed the word bitework...........not that I ever talked to anyone anyway, I just went to see the dogs. When I am raising puppies for Bec, I always try to bring those drives out and just deal with the ankle biting. The puppy I have now is so mouthy--I have so many places on my arms and legs. Bec has an ASL female that is very civil. As long as she is there the girl acts like any other GSd being silly. But if she's not there Leda will nail you and she has some hell of a grips..............Not that's she ever bitten me. When we bred her to Boba, she was just as sweet as she could be and even wanted to play a little while she was checking out the yard. But I've been warned and when I am at Bec's and go outside to smoke I just stay away from her kennel. The person I told you about once that was always putting me down said I was ruining the puppies by not suppressing those drives. I told her she had no clue..............by the way I don't talk to her anymore cause she just got too negative.
I think not reproducing that roach back is a good thing. I know Gator has a very nice topline..............And Bev does too. Hmmmm. Good luck on your breeding. I want to see pics--I know they are just going to be fantastic puppies.............
OK I know who Darby-Dan is. I will have to check it out. And yes I did see that Fimerick bitch and I liked her. I am glad to see the changes and I just can't wait until the 11th which is when we leave. On that Friday they do a lot of OB and I am looking forward to that. I told Bec I must be getting a clue cause I am looking forward to seeing what the big names are bringing in. LOL.................It's going to be a long 11 hour drive but worth it.....................

As for the German side, Ursus went VA1 in 2000 and was so popular as a stud that for awhile, they were advertising 'Ursus-free bloodlines', because the gene pool was getting saturated with him. He had good working drive himself, and reproduced it in his progeny. Unfortunately, I've heard a lot of his daughters showed Star's faded pigment. She's an inch oversize too, which is why her breeder didn't continue to use her father, Erko as a stud. A lot of his progeny were oversize.
I like her non-roached back, high withers and excellent bone. Now, if only she had better pigment, and hadn't x-rayed as mildly dysplastic in one hip!

I think her overall structure is a good example of how crossing the bloodlines can produce a nicely structured dog with no extremes.
She's got great temperament, and is my hearing ear service dog. Her brother is a service dog, too.
